| Show Killed by Lightning LCGAK April 801850 Editors Herald On Friday afternoon Logan was the scene for the frt time in its history of a death by lightning About 3 oclock a fierce storm ocock ferce swept over the city lasting perhaps half an hour It was accompanied by vicious flashes of lichtning and heavy peals ot thunder that followed each other very closely About two hours after the storm abated Mrs John Cowley I anxious about her husband sent one of her children t see i be cculd find his father Tho little fellow went I across the street where his father had been sean last and found him proe traCed in the barn Ho ran home tcld his mother and soon the neigh bora were aroused It was not known I whether be was dead and Dr Ormsbv was hastily summoned On examination exami-nation he was found to be dead He was sitting in the barn directly under the eaves with his back to the south The lightning struck the top of the barn ran down the end passed through an open window struck Mr Cowley in the back of the head crossed to his chest and down the left leg There is a small cut in the back of the head and several scars on his body Tbe back of his cap was torn to pieces but no other part of his apparel ap-parel injured When his clothing was removed there was a strong dis agreeable odor like that of cleaning cut an old gun John Cowley was born in Illinois and was nearly 36 years old He has lived in LnPB for Ituonln vonra a n rt has always born an estimable reputation reputa-tion He leaves a b and six children and his death will cast a gloom over the people of Logan who have respected him highly for honesty and integrity AMATEUR |
