of the Pleasant Valley Railroad Rail-road at what will be its junction with the Denver and Rio Grande Western Extension Railroad Lying in the heart Of the Wasatch Mountains I Moun-tains at an elevation of over 7000 feetbounded on the north and east by clear sparkling streams whose murmurs mur-murs coupled with the soft song of the mosquito and mournful howls of the lonely and only dog of Clear Creek soothe the insearchofrest andquiettourist into sweet sweet sleep overshadowed by brown rocks and stately pines smiled upon all day long by the blue and overarching over-arching sky the little town of fifteen fif-teen or twenty houses looks very cool and inviting after the hot towns of the valley The life of the average aver-age Clear Cleeker is spent not in getting but in satisfying voracious appetite and ones existence seems to be an everlasting round of good health and picnics Nearly every house contains some business and the tourist searches in vain for board and lodgings in i a quiet family BLACK BROS Have a contract to perform a large amount of work on the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad lying at different differ-ent points on the road between this place and Grand River About six miles of continuous rock workin Price River Canyon perhaps the heaviest on the whole line is embraced em-braced in their contract Upon this they have a force of 250 men working work-ing mostly under subcontractors and the grade is expected to be finished fin-ished by the 1st November Until about a week ago supplies were hauled through Soldier Canyon into Castle Valley and thence by a roundabout road to their camp on Price River but the recent floods have washed out the road to such an extent that it has become next to impossible to get a loaded team through by this route However under tile direction of Mr J S Black about 150 men have commenced com-menced building a wagon road through Price River Canyen which will be completed some time during the present week This will lessen the distance to most of the camps in Castle Valley from twentyfive to sixty miles and will be quite an item to the flaxenhaired freighter as well as the contractors In addition addi-tion to the heavy job in the canyon this firm has four miles of scraper work at Clear Creek and a large amount of work near Grand River making in all about twentyfive miles On the Clear Creek division there are some forty or fifty teams at work and the grading is being pushed vigorously forward Black Bros have an extensive supply store here from which hay grain bacon flour and other necessities of railroad rail-road life are furnished the other camps BULLEN A JTEXDRICKS Carry the most extensive ton t-on the road being upwards of forty miles employing 125 teams and about 175 men About twelve miles this side of Price River Canyon on their work is completed ready for track They are at present work ing at Cottonwood Springs near Green River and about 125 miles from this point Bullen Hen dricks have a heavy piece of rockwork rock-work at or near their present camp upon which they design working until New Years when they will move across Green River and remain re-main until spring BIRCH S NIELSSON Also have a large contract lying l at intervals between the mouth of Price River Canyon and Green River During the past month their force has been working at a point twenty miles this side of Green River and in one of the fearful rainstorms rain-storms of last week during which brooklets were swollen into torrents tor-rents their supply store containing goods to the amount of 35000 papers money etc were swept by the flood into the waters of the Green and everything except the clothes in whieh the infnates stood was lost beyond hope of recovery Mr Birch has a large furnishing store at Clear Creek and is figuring quite extensively in the tie business The balance of the Denver and Rio Grande railroad grade between here and Grand River is divided between be-tween Milcom Co Baird Co Jeff Huff R L Bybee P C Chris tainson Hanson Co R Jacobson Jacob-son Wasden Kirkman and Neb eker Bro all of whom are energetically ener-getically pushing their work toward completion At Clear Creek James Tucker carries a full stock of all things needful for the inner and the outer man and a quantity of things not very needful for the inner man but of which the inner man generally manages to imbibe enough to make the outer man look extremely undignified un-dignified under its influence The store and saloon are under the management man-agement of Mr P A Devers and Pat is always on hand to administer to the wants of all from a paper of pins to a steamboat PICKERING 5 SBiO SHave S-Have a saloon and billiard hall and do a good bus ness in their line A boarding house under the t efficient effi-cient management of E Covmgton a blacksmith shop conducted by E M Peck and a number of other i places of business constiute the town of which your correspoiiden is a fractional part All Clear Creek at present is booming Busness is lively and everybody is making money Most of the drawbacks of railroad life are from our little town conspicuously absent and with the exception now and then of a little innocent pastime pas-time in the shape of wildeyed teamsters hunting each other with shot guns and chucking weights through the windows at each other life Sows as evenly and serenely as does the deceased fly on the bosom of a cup of cold coffee in a 25c restaurant res-taurant Well I hear the indications indica-tions of a dogfight another dog having molested the sacredness of our dogs
