Show Billiards and Habeas Corpus IBiIiara Again A couple of days ago we published I I that Russell Burns had been arrested ar-rested for running their billiard hallj after hours This i the firm which was arrested some days since for running without a license and in i the fiabeas corpus proceedings which succeeded was discharged on the ground that the license fe charged under provision of the ordinance was unlawful for the reason that it amounted to a tar which could not I be imposed a a license On Thursday day application was made to Judge Hunter by Sutherland L McBride the defendants attorneys for a writ of habeas corpus growing out of the recent arrest The writ was issued and was made returnable at 10 oclock this morning before Judge Hunter The hearing on this brings up the question whether or not Husel Burns can be held amenable amena-ble to the ordinance while running without a license and whether 10 clock is a reasonable hour at which to close billiard halls |
