Show Montanas Fair Our northern neighbor Helena M T will indulge in a fair the coming week and for a short time will be the center of attraction in i that part of the world She has been enjoying considerable excItement excite-ment and stir during ttw past few weeks in connection with the railroad rail-road boom which has just struck her Her leading papers are extolling ex-tolling her agricultural and mineral resources to au extravagant extent blowing them both beyond recog niton by those who know anything of the Territory Yet such glowing accounts as daily appear m the prints up there are probably necessary neces-sary because if they were not published pub-lished and somewhat colored in the publication people outside the boundaries of that struggling dependency de-pendency would not think there was such a country out of doors Fairs exhibitions races elections conventions con-ventions and similar attractions draw together the people of communities com-munities and as a result exchanges of ideas intelligence and coin are made and a circulation of these necessaries has its beneficial effects Some few enterprising en-terprising individuals of a community commu-nity on occasions like a fair for instance make a small harvest out of the visitors and with the proceeds invest in some improvement to the locality in which thAY purpose settling set-tling Trade is created that probably proba-bly would not otherwise be thought of a spirit of rivalry is engendered and year after year improvements in stock farm products mechanical inventions and everyday necessaries necessar-ies are noted The attention of neighboring communities is drawn toward a city or a county which has itsnewspaper to laud its advantages and progressiveness in time migration migra-tion sets in and if the actual condition condi-tion warrants it that section is settled with a permanent population popu-lation The fairs held in this city have always been productive of good and should be made annual The vast improvements in everything manufactured manu-factured and grown in Utah have been to a great extent inaugurated through the medium of the Territorial Terri-torial fairs instituted and maintained main-tained under the auspices of the Deseret Agricultural and Manufacturing Manufac-turing society the officers of which have a lasting record of good deeds in connection with the development of the productions of Utah They have labored in bygone years at disadvantage their financial support sup-port being meagre and obtained with much difficulty But with the Territory in her present prosperous pros-perous condition the Legislature should be induced to foster such an institution as the D A M society soci-ety by a liberal appropriation and the Governor ought to be suffici ciently interested to affix his signature signa-ture to a bill to that end When will the next fair be held in Salt Lake city |
