Show CITY CODICIL Prl ceedings at the City Council Tuesday evening June 28th 1SS1 Alderman Pyper presiding A communication was received from H W Lawrence chairman of the committee on invitation of the Fourth of July celebration inviting the Mayor and the City Council of the city to participate with the citizens citi-zens of Salt Lake in celebrating the lUoth anniversary of our countrys independence on Monday July 4th 1881 On motion the communication communica-tion was received and the recorder instructed to acknowlege the courtesy cour-tesy and inform the committee that the Council would be unable to accept ac-cept the invitation on account of their presence being required at the ceremonies incidental to the opening open-ing of the new park at Mill Farm and their intention to participate in the Fourth of July celebration to beheld be-held there The Police Court report for May was submitted showing that sixty three cases had been tried and disposed dis-posed off and 8415 assessed in fines 215 dollars of which had been paid in cash and 8200 in labor Accepted and filed The watermaster submitted his report of expenditures for the quarter quar-ter ending May 31st showing a total expenditure of 84985 Referred to the committee on claims The committee on water works reported that they had examined the quarterly report of the superintendent superin-tendent of water works and found it correct They therefore recommended recom-mended the approval of the report and the appropriation of the balance bal-ance due the account viz 35261 The committee on finance reported that they had examined the canal report for the month of May and found the vouchers all properly signed and countersigned and the vouchers all correctly reported They recommended therefore that the canal report be accepted and placed nr filp Adopted 1 u Lw The committee on public grounds with the city attorney associated to whom was referred the subject of drafting a resolution providing for the opening and dedication of the grounds recently purchased by the city for a park and the arrangement of ceremonies suitable for the occasion occa-sion reported a resolution in rela relation to the park and a programme of ceremonies for the opening of the park to the public Report accepted and resolution laid over to come up in its order An appropriation of 2100972 f was made to take up several temporary tempo-rary loans contracted previous to the sale of the Market Lbt to pay the purcease money for the Mill Farm The resolution in relation to the city park was taken up and read The park was designated and named Liberty Park and the resolution was adopted and referred to the committee on enrollment to be enrolled en-rolled signed and published The programme of ceremonies for opening Liberty Park to be held on the morning of Monday July4th 1SS1 was read and decided upon and it was agreed that the members of the Council be on the ground on that morning at 9 oclock Adjourned for one week |
