Show A Question of Citizenship Washington 27Tue Buzzi case before the SpanishAmerican claims commission in which the claimants status as a duly naturalized citizen of the United States was disputed by the Spanish government seems to have terminated for the time The right claimed by the Spanish consul to go behind the certificate of naturalization and investigate the legality of its issuance was disputed by our government and when the question was submitted to Count Lewenhaupt umpireand he decided in favor of the claim set up by Spain Durant American consulwas instructed by the state department to request a reconsideration and reversal re-versal of this decision A very long document was prepared and presented pre-sented to the umpire in which the position and claims of this government govern-ment on the question of naturalization naturaliza-tion were fully set forth Our government gov-ernment declined to recede from its position and declined to certify anymore any-more cases Meanwhile the Spanish government through its representatives representa-tives was notified of the deadlock and a request was sent to Buzzi to visit Madrid with the view to an amicable settlement of his claim Buzzi acceded to the request and if he succeeds in effecting a satisfactory satisfac-tory settlement with the Spanish government will at once withdraw his claim from before the claim commission com-mission thus removing from their consideration the vexed question of citizenship which at present bars any further progress |
