Show J CITY COUNCIL I I u Proceedings at the City Council on Tuesday evening April 10th 1SS1 Mayor Little presiding A petition was submitted from E R Kneass and seven others asking that Third East street from First to Second South streets be brought to the established grade as the ditches bordering the sidewalks were above the street and in high water overflowed and formed a stagnant pool which was extremely obnoxious and breeder a of disease Referred to the committee on streets and alleys The committee on construction of Jordan and Salt Lake City Canal submitted their report for the month of March showing that S8 09530 had been expended < on account of excavation right of way damage etc Referred to the committee on finance The committee on streets and alleys to whom was referred the pe Ition of Timothy Olorenshaw pe a i bridge across the cmal in front of his premises in the Sixth Ward rePorted ported favorably thereon and re re commended that the supervisor be ordered to have said bridge constructed structed Adopted The committee on streets and alleys to whom was referred the pe ition of Wm Willes titon Wies and others asking that the old city wall be torn down and used to fill up the gullies in Wall street recommended that the city watermaster be instructed to summon the parties using water from the ditch running long salts street to move the same to its proper placein the street so as to leave the usual width of sidewalk for a five rod street and that tIme supprvisor ho iimrrnctoil fo inHfnctl allow the petitioners and others f the immediate vicinity to work out their poll tax in tearing down the old wall and using it to fill up the low places along the edge of the street so far as to be in keeping with other public improvements in that locality Adopted The same committee recommended recom-mended that the watermaster be instructed in-structed to cause the water ditch in Cedar street Plat E to be put in its proper place in said street Adopted The committee on public grounds reported favorably on the petition of G W Hill i who l asked the privilege of pur cnasing two lots in the warm Spring pature for building purposes The committee recommended that the Mayor be authorized to sell the lots asked for to the petitioner and furthermore that the entire pasture entre pature be sold in city lots to the best advantage ad-vantage of the city Report adopted and Mayor authorized to advertise said lots for bale to the highest bid der derThe The committee on public grounds reported favorably upon the petition of Richard A Margetts and recommended that comDended tm on presentation 01 a plat from the surveyor and pajmeut of what is right and proper under the circumstances circum-stances the Mayor be authorized to give the deed for the ground desired desire by petitioner Adopted An appropriation of S2000 was made to street improvement account to be drawn upon the orders of the street supervisor The city attorney according to instructions reported a bill for an ordinance in relation to levying and collecting tax for grading paving and graveling certain sidewalks which was taken up and discussed The bill passed one reading Adjourned for one week |
