Show Reform Meeting The meeting of the McKenzie Reform Re-form Cub last night at the Methodist Method-ist Church was not a largely attended at-tended a on some former occasions which was probably owing to the great attraction at the Theatre The meeting being called to order by Dr McKenzie the choir selections of beautiful music being sang accompanied by Mrs Wilson on the fine church organ Prayer was of fered up by Rev M Rudi who earnestly invoked the blessing of the Almighty on this temperance invement Dr McKenzie addressed the audience audi-ence in his mild and mid pleasant man ner reciting cases of some of his old friends who had fallen under the influence of strong drink which created a great imnress upon his hearers He spoke very highly the proposed new building and showed the necessity of such an institution in-stitution fgr mutual benefit Some interesting anecdotes were related I I by him going to show the depths to which men will degrade themselves I under the influence of strong drink I and then in his forcible language i depicted the misery and suffering created by it use He next read a i few lines from a New York paper I showing that President Garfield I a I j sound temperance man Mrs Charlotte LGodbe being present pres-ent was called upon and spuke of the broad platform of the temperance temper-ance order referring back to a time tme in her own experience when there were no saloons in this city or county coun-ty She spoke of many interesting temperance meetings which she I had attended while on her visit east After speaking boldly in behalf be-half of her own church and peOple and appealing earnestly the ladies j t rally to this grand moyementof temperance she closed by a select reading S The meetings will be continued every night until further notice All persons are invited t attend I |
