Show Ignored The grand jury which has been in session since Monday week and heretofore here-tofore returned teaindictments under the laws 01 the territory has also ignored i ig-nored four oases brought before it and refused to find indictments The first is that ot John Bell charged with and bound over by the justice of the peace of Park City for robbing F Porter of the sum of 45 Iheoflenie was alleged to have been committed the 19th of June last The second is that of W H Bennett Ben-nett who was bound over from the Park Cityprecinctto await the action of the grand jury on a charge of assault as-sault with a deadly weapon The date of the alleged oflanse was the Slit of May at about 9 oclock in the evening in Park Avenue Park City The complaining witness and the one who was assaulted was Martin Abernathy Aber-nathy the assault consisting in Bennett Ben-nett striking Abernathy in the forehead fore-head with a pistol an the complaint chargea The third case was also from the Park precinct and the charge is against Robt E Clifton for forgery The complainant is Henry Hirsch man who charges Clifton with forging forg-ing the name of T Masters to a bill of exchange which was made out at I the store of W Ollenheimer at Park City on the 13th of June 1880 anti I that the same was passed upon the complainant The remaining caie was for assault aud battery and is one about which EO much was published at the time of occurrence It was against George Cheshire on a charge of assaulting one John H Freeman with a deadly weapon As will be remembered the affair took place on the 25th of last April in the evening Freemans story was that just before going to bed he went outside as was his cuitom to see that everything was all right when he saw a man on his premises He went up to the person per-son and asked who he was when the individual said I am George Cheshire with an oath and at tbe same time struck at Freeman with a knife cutting a deep gash in one of his arms Cheshire was arrested and after an examination was bound over in 200 to await the action of the jury though it was generally believed at the time that the testimony hardly warranted Cheshires detention the bonds were immediately given The Action of the grand jury Indicates that they were not sufficiently suffici-ently impressed with the story to indict in-dict |
