Show Twenty Years Ago In the Improvements of today constant reminders of early days are being brought to light in the most unexpected quarters Mr James Hdgle recently purchased the building until a couple of weeks ago occupied by A C Smith Co druggists It adjoins the store of Walker Brothers on the north and is at present undergoing alterations These alterations have rendered the removal of a part of the roof of the building necessary and this removal revealed on the north side of Walker Brothers store in plain and distinct letters the words Gold dust bought it doesnt amount to anything but it recalls to the old timer the fact that there was a day of ox teams and long mule freight teams when there was no railroad when greenbacks were scarce and gold dust was as good as currency when Walker Brothers occupied the store now owned by S W Sears Esq and occupied by Kahn Bros when W K Sloanlately known for his connection with the Hilliard Lumber and Flume Company started and for a number of years owned the store of the Big Boot and used the same big wooden boot which hangs now as a sign in front of 86 Main street and when things were so vastly different that the youth of today would not know where he wasif such a thing were possibleand he should accidentally accident-ally drop into the Salt Lake City of about twenty years ago |
