Show FATAL WRECK VRE KON ON THE SHORT LINE Engineer Is Killed Fireman and Two Passengers rs Are Injured Boise Jan William Wilhiam WilliamB I B ot of 73 North Eighteenth C 4 street was killed Fireman Eggers of West Main street wast was seriously scalded and two passengers gels gers were painfully though not fa fai fatally tall tally injured as the result of a wreck w wilch occurred at Arcadia i Ore the first station on the other 4 side of the Idaho state line on the 4 Oregon Short Line railroad at S 4 yest yesterday afternoon when 4 westbound passenger train No 1 4 known as the Pony crashed into 4 westbound extra freight train No 4 I as the latter was backing from the main line Into the siding where It pad had been ordered to walt wait until the 4 4 passenger had passed 4 f 4 44 4 4 4 4 4 According to a statement made b by En Engineer Engineer Busteed before he dIed hits his engine was leakIng EO o badly that the escaping obscured his view and he did not see the freight ahead of him until it w was s too late to reverse hIs engine The force of the knocked several sev several eral freight cars over and the engine baggage car and one coach ot of the Pony were turned over oer Engineer Busteed was terribly Injured his chest being crushed In his left arm broken and his flesh cooked by th the escaping steam Ho He was rushed to Nampa but died just as the train was pulling into that station short shortly shortly ly after midnight Fireman Eggers was also bad badly scalded but it Is believed that he will recover Conductor Ready Brakeman Adams and andall andall all but two passengers on the Pony escaped serious Injury |
