Show I CONCERT IS MUSICAL TREAT I The musical talent of of Salt Lake both amateur and professional was well represented on the program of the i big benefit concert given last evening I at the tabernacle for tor the benefit of ot the High school cadets Most of the num bers on the program were popular se selections sele sele le one of or the most pleasing being the famous Soldiers Chorus from Faust rendered by b the Tabernacle I choir which true to its reputation i sang the selection most artistically The encore to the Soldiers Chorus the I Pilgrims Chorus from Lombardy by b Verdi was In sharp contrast with the thc stirring military song sons from Faust The choir was under the baton of Evan Stephens and was in strict accord with his direction More lore than 2000 people were present at the concert and the proceeds net netted netted netted ted a handsome fund which will be used by the High school cadets on their trip to San Francisco A great many more tickets were sold than were represented by the attendance at the concert many being unable to attend Nearly every eer student in the High school and university was present at atthe atthe atthe the concert which gave gate the audience something of a n juvenile appearance I Cadet Band Does Well The concert c opened with the march The High School Cadets by Sousa which was played by the High School Cadet band under the leadership of Professor L P Christensen At the close of the piece the band was given applause and It responded with Sou Sousas Sousas sas Semper Fidelis The ability of the members of this juvenile band was remarkable and the audience must have hae been convinced that this latest musical organization that Salt Lake is sending forth will uphold the reputation reputation reputation tion of Utah as the home of musical talent During the concert the band played pla ed selections from Little Johnnie Jones and the Chilean Dance from responding gen generously generously to encores Following Little i I I i I Johnnie Jones zones the band played lola Iola and the encore to the Chilean Dance was responded to with a cornet solo Trumpeter on Guard played by Alva Baer At the close of the con concert concert concert cert the band with the organ played I by J T J S McClellan was the tho accompaniment ment to The Star Spangled Banner sung by the Tabernacle choir and amI the audience Fred E K Smith gave a beautiful bari baritone baritone baritone tone solo The Trumpeter by b J Airle Dix The song was most Inspiring Inspiring Inspiring ing closing with the trumpet call caIl to battle from The Marseillaise For Foran Foran Foran an encore he sang sans the anvil song from Robin Hood The Romance was sweetly played on the violin by b Morris Andrews one of the High school cadets His bril brilliancy Nancy of technique which Is surprising surprising ing in one so young was shown in inThe InThe inThe The Bee from Schubert which he played as an encore In place of Mr Brines tenor solo was substituted the first quartette from In a Persian Garden sung by Miss Cohn Mrs Stanley Price Fred FredE E Smith and M J T Brines This se selection selection lection was an unexpected treat which was appreciated by the audience es especially especially especially by those who had heard In a Persian Garden the evening before Rosemary Glosz Pleases For the first time in five fie years a Salt Lake audience heard Rosemary Gloz Glosz the talented Salt Lake girl who has made such a success in grand opera Miss Glosz was in excellent voice and andin andin andin in the selection by she found excellent opportunities for the display of ot the flexible quality of her beautiful voice oice The tremendous applause brought her back with Comm Com In Through the Rye It is sometimes said that the true test of a great sing singers singers singers ers ability Is to be found in her ren rendering rendering rendering dering of the old favorites The pleasing pleas pleasing pleasIng ing manner In which Miss Glosz sang Comin Through the Rye insured for fo r her a plate place as a real artist |
