"The last three years have been clear wins,"stated one senior athlete from NSHS as she recalls the events of her high school career. "This year our team pulled together to carry on the NSHS tradition of winning state track. Each person carried their own load and then some, and if even one of our track members had been unable to perform we (NSHS track team) would not have been able to do this well! Even though at times we were held together with tape and Doug and Nick's magic hands, it was a great weekend and a perfect way to end the season! It has been an honor to run for North Summit, and we look for the purple tradition to continue. Thank you, coaches and families, for your support!" This tribute by one of the NSHS track athletes sums up the entire track season chain of events after their win of the 2013 Utah High School Athletic Association State Track and Field Championships BYU, May 17 — 18, 2013. Through a season of injuries, weather, tough breaks, good events, mistakes, and the thrill of "being in their best physical shape" of their lives as they took to the track field in each category, they performed as a "team" and they earned an end result for another Utah State Track and Field Championship! North Summit Girls and North Summit Boys Track Teams and their coaches are to be congratulated for a terrific performance last weekend at Utah State Track and Field Championships! Parents, coaches, and the audience cheered as the results were tabulated. All the hard work, the sore muscles and injuries, the wins, the losses, came together as if tossed in a salad basket and came out looking like a gourmet success when they realized that despite a few disappointments on the last day, they still were the Champions! It is a fact... the scores and tabulations were important in the final total... and without one person the outcome would have been totally different. Students, parents, families and friends wish to congratulate these fine students in Kaitlyn Rowser is our ONLY event winner this year! their endeavors and determination. Garcia emphasizes the enrollment deadline for farmers and ranchers considering the 2013 Direct and CounterCyclical Payment Program (DCP) or the Average Crop Revenue Election Program (ACRE). Producers who wait until the last minute to sign up could face increased waiting time in FSA county offices. The sign-up for both programs began Feb. 19, 2013. The deadline to sign up for ACRE is June 3, 2013. The DCP sign up period ends Aug. 2, 2013. "We understand that producers have gotten busy, but they can't forget to visit their county office if they intend to sign up for DCP or ACRE," said Garcia. "Just as farmers and ranchers plan their spring plantings, producers should plan to schedule an appointment to visit their USDA Service Center at the earliest possible time. "It's best to complete the paperwork now rather than to stand in line the day before the deadline," advised Garcia. The 2013 DCP and ACRE program provisions are unchanged from 2012, except that all eligible participants in 2013 may choose to enroll in either DCP or ACRE for the 2013 crop year. This means that eligible producers who were enrolled in ACRE in 2012 may elect to enroll in DCP in 2013 or may re-enroll in ACRE in 2013 (and vice versa). For more information about the programs and loans administered by FSA, visit any FSA county office or www.fsa.usda.gov. and Superintendent Barry Walker. After picking up their well-deserved diplomas, the class returned to their seats. Many hear the word Commencement and may think of if as and ending, in the case of the Class of 2013, the ceremony ending their High School career. The members of the South Summit High School Class of 2013 see it as both the end of high school, and the beginning of the next chapter in their life. On May 23, graduates, family, friends and teachers gathered in Wildcat Stadium to celebrate this moment with the Seniors. Years of hard work lead to young men and women dressed in Green and White robes marching to their seats to be announced as a Graduate, and to receive the long awaited diploma. After the March of the Graduates, Senior Class Vice President welcomed the crowd and outlined the program. The National Anthem was sung, and Porter Lewis gave an Inspirational Opening. Speakers for the evening were Alyssa Tia Hanson, Ashley Bayles, and Senior Class President Quinn Hicken. Musical numbers were performed by Sterling Scholar Maren Davis who performed a violin solo, Somewhere Over the Rainbow, and Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing as sung by a group of Seniors who had been members of the choir while in high school.
