Show AROUND THE COUNTY MAY SUMMIT COUNTY NEWS 3, 2013 Coalville DUP Ready for summer visitors CHERYL OVARD SCN Editor The Coalville Daughters of Utah Pioneers (DUP) Museum have prepared their building for visitors and will be open monthly the first and last Tuesday of each month from 4 p.m. through 7 p.m. They would like to encourage locals and visitors to come and view the artifacts in the Museum, located at 101 South Main Street in Downtown Coalville. They are also looking for and encouraging people to join and become a member of the Coalville DUP. They will have this information available on any of their "open hours" and would love to pass on further information about becoming a member of the DUP. Board of Health meeting CHERYL OVARD SCN Editor The Summit County Board of Health met on Monday, April 29, at the Health Department Building at Quinn's Junction. There was a discussion concerning onsite wastewater policies. A short presentation was given by Rich Bullough, Health Director, on the ozone levels monitored and recorded by Utah DEQ (Department of Environmental Quality), Air Quality Division with monitors they provided last summer. The Board of Health also approved the purchase of two ozone monitors which will be placed in Summit County. PAGE A3 Sheriff's Report Blotter • A deputy stopped a vehicle for no insurance. The driver was found to have an active statewide warrant and arrested for the warrant, no insurance, and driving on suspension. During the vehicle inventory a user amount of marijuana and paraphernalia were located. The driver was transported to the jail and booked on the charges. The vehicle was state tax impounded. • A restaurant employee reported someone had walked up to the drive-up window in an apparent intoxicated state and was concerned for his well-being. Responding Deputies located him nearby and transported him home to Elk Meadows, where he was turned over to a roommate. • Deputies responded to a suspicious complaint. Upon running a routine records check dispatch indicated the individual had an outstanding arrest warrant for DUI out of Murray Justice Court. The individual was arrested and booked into the Summit County Jail. • Deputies responded on the report of a cardiac arrest / possible death of a female with multiple medical problems. She had been discovered unconscious and not breathing by her husband. She was, however, eventually revived by PCFD paramedics and transported to the hospital. • A deputy stopped a vehicle for multiple traffic offenses on 180. The driver was found to have several outstanding warrants and a suspended driver's license. The driver was arrested and transported to the jail for the warrants and several new traffic charges. • A deputy stopped to check on a driver that was pulled off in one of the pull-outs at Rockport. The driver was found to have an active warrant. The driver was arrested and the vehicle released to the registered owner. • This is an initial report of a criminal mischief case which occurred in the Newpark area. A caller contacted the Sheriff's Office to report that they had just witnessed a suspect jump out of a car and slash a tire on another vehicle. The suspect then fled the area. The witness was able to provide a vehicle description but was unable to obtain a license plate. Deputies circulated through the area however were unable to locate the suspect vehicle. • Following a traffic stop for a turning violation and to confirm insurance status the driver was found to have two active warrants for his arrest. The vehicle was state tax impounded for no insurance and drug paraphernalia was located during an inventory. The driver was arrested, transported, and booked into the Summit County Jail. • A deputy responded to a report of materials theft on a construction site. Evidence appears to indicate that equipment that was on site was used to load the materials and then re-parked. • Multiple old rifles / shotguns were taken from a cabin in Woodland. No sign of forced entry. Nothing in the cabin was disturbed except for where the guns were taken from. The guns had been hidden under some blankets in a closet. The suspect even put the blankets back in place. • A deputy stopped on a motor assist on 180 near Coalville, and while speaking to the driver detected the odor of marijuana. The back passenger was found to be in possession of a pipe and user amount of marijuana. He was arrested and booked. • A Deputy stopped the driver for lane travel. During the investigation, the driver admitted to possession of meth. Another Deputy responded and deployed PSD Recon on a vehicle sniff. PSD Recon indicated on the vehicle. A probable cause search revealed that the driver and passenger were each in possession of pipes containing meth. The Deputy arrested and booked both people. Wendy Richins retires CHERYL OVARD SCN Editor Tuesday, April 30, was the last day of serving Summit County as the Records Imaging Tech in Planning. Wendy has served 26 years with Summit County as well as 31/2 years with the Coalville City. "Wendy was always in control of everything, even up the last two days she was still working hard. During the lunch hour a reception to wish her well on her retirement was held at the Summit County Courthouse on Tuesday, April 30. Wendy stated she has no definite plans except..."doing anything I want to do!" Traveling is NOT on her agenda. But all in all, Wendy stated that she "enjoyed" working these past several years!
