See Page A5 Jon Schmidt Henefer 4th July Concert BY CHERYL OVARD SCN Editor He loves to make his audiences happy, and his "New Age Pop" genre of piano arrangements kept the crowd clamoring for more - and excited to be in there. Blankets and lawn chairs filled with people listening to Jon playing upside down, with his feet, and his inspirational arrangements seemed to be a perfect way to end a perfect celebration of the 4th of July, 2012! Jon is a YouTube sensation with over 2.04 million hits for his unique performances. He will perform this year at BYU Ed. Week, and Thanksgiving Point, to name a few. His "soul searching" music is soothing, humorous, and fun. The spectators were delighted with his wonderful and inspiring performance. No fireworks needed with an entertainer like Jon! He graciously accepted to be the entertainment for Henefer's concern at the Henefer City Park on the 4th of July. The lawn was covered with spectators, the air was calm and still, and the music which came from the Grand Piano filled the night with tunes and arrangements unique to Jon's performance. Friday, June 22, their schedule started with the Tough Enough to Wear Pink Dinner and Auction. Kids games and dinner led out the evening, followed by the auction, with donated items galore to choose from. The proceeds benefit the Breast Cancer Fund. Saturday the Youth Open Horse Show featured judged events, lead-line, walk, trot, speed events - and the 4th of July started out with the 5k race followed by the traditional parade and patriotic program. Lunch was as always a special treat - the BBQ! The Jr. Rodeo began, with enough kids and horses to guarantee that in the future there will be many more "adults" coming up to ride in the future rodeos - as professionals perhaps! The Horse Pull on Saturday, July 7th, brought out the crowds in the arena at the Oakley Recreation Complex. Horses struggled with the heavy loads, but did their best and records were set that morning. This event was following the breakfast at the City Hall! Famous pancakes and eggs, ham and drinks - to start a full day of celebration to end the full week + of events for the Oakley 77th Annual Independence Day Rodeos and Celebration! Four days were filled with PRCA Rodeos - and although Wednesday was still dry - NO Fireworks were set off but the next three evenings the skies were filled with the celebration of both the 4th of July and "Rain". Mayor Blake Frazier stated, "...we felt it was safe to set them off following the storms". People were de- lighted with the array of colors and sounds of the fireworks after each rodeo! It turned out to be a celebration to be remembered! Special thanks to Rodeo announcer Wayne Wise, bull fighters Cory Wall and Marc Gill, Barrelman and Specialty Act by Gizmo McCracken and Stock Contractor - Bar T Rodeo, Inc. Also, special recognition to those at Oakley City Hall, the Oakley Mayor, Blake Frazier, and others who assisted in the planning of this fine celebration! "See ya'll Next Year!" Many who had not heard the news were concerned, but no active fires in Park City or Summit County, fortunately, were in progress. By 4 p.m. on the 3rd of July the smoke seen in Park City was drifting heavily and settling into the valleys, causing condition that were mistaken by some that a fire was in this county, too. Emergency Notification was sent out and posted on July 3, 2012 for all Summit County residents to be aware of and to sign up: It is essential to receive up-to-date information in order to know when to respond to a wildfire. Both Summit County and Park City Municipal provide Reverse 911 services that can notify residents of emergencies via telephone.
