Show MAY PAGE SUMMIT COUNTY NEWS 25, 2012 Announcement made by Summit County Manager Bob Jasper on May 23 in County Council meeting at the Sheldon Richins Building A3 County holds 2nd Annual Arbor Day Summit County announces completion of Round Valley Open Space Summit County, Utah - Today on behalf of the Summit County Council, Summit County Manager Bob Jasper announced a purchase agreement with the landowner Nadine Gillmor to acquire approximately 290 acres known as Stoneridge to be permanently protected open space. Ms. Gillmor will retain 10 acres, containing an existing home and two additional lots. The purchase price is $7.425 million. The County Council will authorize the transfer of $6 million from Open Space Bond funds with the remaining $1.425 million due one year from closing to be contributed through a public fundraising campaign, among other ways. Utah Open Lands, the Snyderville Basin Special Recreation District, and Summit County are hopeful that the public will join in raising this money through fundraising. The purchase agreement, signed early Wednesday morning, includes termination of all the lawsuits relating to this property. It also stipulates a conservation easement which will be held by Utah Open Lands. The County thanks Nadine Gillmor for being open to pursue a conservation option. Ms. Gillmor said "I am glad to be able to put this long dispute behind me and I am glad that the County did the right thing for me and for the property." Ms. Gillmor's attorney Bruce Baird stated that "this has been a very long and very hard effort and I am glad that the County has treated Ms. Gillmor fairly in the end. Ms. Gillmor and I hope that the County and its citizens treat the new open space with the respect that it deserves." The County Council was unanimous in support of the agreement, which was largely crafted through dialogue between Council member Chris Robinson and Bruce Baird. Council Member Robinson stated that "this 290 acres solidifies the Central Park concept of Round Valley and preserves a continuous link of open space and a wildlife corridor between SR 248, Old Ranch Road, Highland Drive and US 40." The property further meets the Basin Open Space Advisory Committee's primary objective of preserving sensitive lands, providing recreational opportunities, halting suburban sprawl, and protecting view sheds from major corridors. The County hopes that this news will be greeted with enthusiasm from the community in supporting this milestone of preservation.
