Show THE S SPOTLIGHT U MIT JULY 29, 2011 SUMMIT COUNTY NEWS PAGE B1 limas Valley Fiesta Days Parade CHERYL OVARD SCN Editor The 2011 Kamas Valley Fiesta Days Parade was held on Friday, July 22. Streets were blocked off and chairs (some of which had been sitting on the street and sidewalk since the evening before) lined both sides of the City's Main Street, anticipating their favorite event, especially for the kids, of the traditional parade. Kids had their sacks open, and anxiously awaited the first turn of the United States Flag, starting off the parade with Boy Scouts carrying the colors. The children waved at the first float, hoping for that fistful of candy to come their way. Thus the process began - a new float, more calls for more candy - "...this way, this way!" Their bags soon bulged with the treats, some candy drooling down the chins of the tiny tots, while busy parents were helping them get the candy safely into their bags. It was the "...best part of the parade," a youngster exclaimed! Color Guard Tyler Lewis and Brett Steed carried the Flag proudly, smiling as they walked up the roadway knowing that they were the leaders of the parade. Following them came the South Summit Fire Protection District, who have been serving Kamas Valley since 1952. This year there are 32 dedicated staff - volunteering their time for the community. Chinks to Chet Ellis, the Bagpiper Fireman! Of course the parade would not be "Grand" without the "Grand Marshall". Gertrude Oliver Gines, who was born and raised in Marion, Utah and graduated from SSHS , rode in the cart. "Grandma or Grandma Gert" as she is fondly called at the school by students, rode in the horse and wagon owned and driven by Phillip Jung. The Kamas Fiesta City Mayor and City Council Members, Diane Atkinson, Dan Littledike, Rod Atkinson, Kevan Todd and Rodney Smith, welcomed everyone to the parade! They also encouraged everyone to take time to "ap- DEER VALLE RESORT Degree in Winter Preferred IS Visit us at the Heber City Farmer's Market every Thursday through September 8, 2011.
