See story on Page A4 Today H88 L57 Isolated T-Storms Saturday H90 L58 Mostly Sunny 500 Friday, July 29, 2011 Coalville, Utah 84017 Celebrating 100 years Kamas Valle Fiesta Days 20 I CHERYL OVARD SCN Editor The month-long celebration, celebrating the Incorporated date of July 5, 1911 over 100 years ago, Kamas' schedule of activities will be remembered for - well - perhaps another 100 years! The Mayor of Kamas, Lew Marchant, started off the program and conducted it on the exact date of July 5th with an historical tour, including an open house at the Kamas City Hall. Rides, photographs, music were the main attractions, as well as visitors who were excited to attend this centennial celebration! The Princess program was held at the SSHS Auditorium on June 11, and the Queen Pageant on July 19th, also at the SSHS Auditorium. Thanks to both Myndi Woolstenhulme and Tifani Price for putting these two pageants together. The Princess' Royalty names and photo are listed in this issue of the Summit County News. The Queen Pageant Royalty are Paige Peterson, Queen, with Hadlie Ann Llewellyn, 1st Attendant and 2nd Attendant is Megan Peterson. Their reign continued throughout the celebration all month. July 15th and 16th presented a Horse Show in which children of all ages showed off their talents. The Melodrama at the South Summit Middle School Audito- rium, presenting this year "Kung Fooey" by the Off Broadway Theatre. July 20th the ATV Rodeo took place, as well as co-Ed Volleyball. Co-Ed Volleyball Tuesday evening celebration day with many participants and ATV rodeo followers. It was a fun night and the weather "perfect"! Doug Markgraf, a survivor tells his story Sunday H83 L56 Scattered T-Storms Monday H77 L53 Isolated T-Storms Tuesday H82 L51 Sunny Wednesday H82 L53 Isolated T-Storms Thursday H79 L51 Showers Riding from CA to NJ - A Mission for TBI CHERYL OVARD SCN Editor Doug Porter and his wife Sheryl, of Coalville, Utah, were the honored hosts to be able to meet, hear the story, and get to know a young man who is a survivor of a terrible accident on a bicycle which nearly cost him his life. Doug Porter welcomed Doug Markgraf, a young man who is riding his bicycle across the United States for a great cause - for TBI victims, into their home for a day of resting. They then following him to Evanston to continue on his trek across the United States into New Jersey the following day. Doug's visit was short , but he was excited to make new friends with the Porters and others who made their acquaintance while he was here in Summit County. This is Doug Markgraf's story...
