Show Thursday, July 23, 2009 Society The Gunnison Valley Gazette Obituary Dorothy Blackham 1929 - 2009 Mesa, AZ/Salina, UT Our kind and beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Dorothy LaRee Shepherd Blackham, age 83 of Mesa, Arizona and formerly of Salina, died July 17, 2009 in Mesa. She was born May 9, 1926 in Mt. Pleasant, Utah, a daughter of Marlin Ardell and Tina Matilda Nielson Shepherd. She graduated from North Sanpete High School and attended Wasatch Academy in Mt. Pleasant. She married Ray D. Blackham, June 30, 1943 in Manti, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple April 4, 1956. He died July 5, 1999. Dorothy was an active member of the LDS Church, serving as the Primary Secretary for 14 years, She was meticulous records keeper for the Primary. She was also a faithful Relief Society Visiting Teacher for many years. Dorothy made many embroidered pillow cases and dish towels. She was a fastidious housekeeper. Dorothy helped her husband Ray can fruits and vegetables grown on Ray’s beautiful gardens. They were both very generous to friends and neighbors in sharing their produce. She is survived by her son, Ron R. (LaReta S.) Blackham of Mesa; 4 grandchildren: Rhonda (Mark) Huish, Chandler, Arizona; Jeremy (Kelly) Blackham, Gilbert, Arizona; Kim (Eric) Pyles, Mesa, Ari- Elder Freddy Villanueva Farewell Elder Freddy Villanueva has been called to serve an LDS Mission in Boise, Idaho. He will speak in the Axtell Church on Sunday July 26, 2009 at 1 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend. Freddy is the son of Fortino and Reyna Villanueva. zona; Shelly (Edward) Hiatt, Apache Junction, Arizona; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers and sister: Jay Shepherd of Richfield; Connie Jensen of Ephraim; Dick Shepherd of Central Valley; Yvonne Shepherd, Sister-in-law of Mt, Pleasant. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray D. Blackham; her brother, Doyce Shepherd; and her parents: Marlin Ardell and Tina Matilda Nielson Shepherd. Funeral services will be held Saturday July 25, 2009 at 11 A.M. in Salina LDS Stake Center, 98 West 400 North, where friends may call for viewing from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the services. Burial will be Saturday afternoon at 3 P.M. in the Mt. Pleasant City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah. On line guest book at: www.springerturner.com. Gary Ellis Gary Granger Ellis, age 75, passed away July 20, 2009 at home in Mayfield surrounded by his family. Gary was born July 5, 1934 in Salt Lake City, UT to Thelma Marie and LaFayette Granger Ellis. He married Cleola Clark on July 2, 1954 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Gary attended schools at Columbus Elementary, Irving Jr. High and South High School. He enjoyed working and had many part-time jobs along with his full time jobs. He worked at Hillfield, Marquardt aircraft and retired as an engineer from Hercules. His part-time jobs included private detective, hardwood floor layer, raised mink and managed a restaurant. Gary was a past member of the National Ski Patrol for 30+ years, and the Mayfield Lions Club. He loved camping, fishing and hunting. He enjoyed his kids and loved the grandkids. Gary belongs to the LDS Church where he was a scout leader, Elders quorum president, Ward executive secretary, Ward mission leader, activity chairman and Genealogy specialist. Gary and Cleola were blessed with four children: Missionaries Farewell Elder Colton Lund Elder Colton S. Lund, son of Scott and Suzette Lund of Centerfield, has been called to serve in the Mozambique Maputo Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He will enter the Missionary Training Center on August 5 where he will prepare to preach the gospel in the Portuguese language. Elder Lund will speak in the Centerfield 1st Ward on Sunday July 26 at 9 a.m. Colton’s grandparents are Deloyd and Arva Lund of Gunnison, Dayna Barney of Page 3 First Birthday Gracie Gregerson Hi, my name is Gracie Anna Gregerson and I turned one on July 21st. My proud mommy and daddy are Clint and Kerah Gregerson of Gunnison. I am a happy little girl who loves to play with my big sister Rylie and I always light up a room with my big blue eyes and my cute little smile! My proud grandparents are Larry and Leslie Gregerson of Centerfield, Mike and Cindy Roberts of Sigurd and the late Connie Lund. Proud greatgrandparents are Shelley Lund of Redmond, Jim and Phyllis Gregerson of Gunnison and Ray and Verna Roberts of Venice. St. George, and the late Clair Barney. Elder Jared Williams Homecoming Elder Jared Allen Williams has recently returned from serving in the Brazil Manaus Mission. He will be speaking in the Centerfield 1st Ward in the Centerfield Chapel on Sunday July 26th at 9 a.m. Elder Williams is the son of Craig and Nancy Williams of Centerfield and the grandson of Stan and Bonnie Williams of Mapleton, and Karen Cheney and the late Maurice E. Cheney of Springville. • A 6 lb. 2 oz. baby girl was born to Shanell Rees of Richfield on July 3, 2009. • A 6 lb. 15 oz. baby girl was born to Mark and Lael McKillip of Loa on July 6, 2009. • A 7 lb. 5 oz. baby boy was born to Michael and Melanie Crane of Salina on July 8, 2009.
