Page 5 Bulldog Bulletin by CAMI CARLISLE On Wednesday, July 8th, eighteen Gunnison Valley High School student council members attended the annual Dixie Leadership Conference in St. George. The conference hosted 22 schools from all around the state. It started off with a huge panoramic picture featuring all the students attending. After which we heard from guest speaker Liz Johnson, a former Miss Utah. That evening everyone attended a pizza party, and afterwards went to Sand Hollow which is a big swim park. On Thursday everyone was divided into groups; all SBOs in one, and all class officers in the other. Each group went to different workshops including poster making, and round table. Round table is where the students sit in circles and swap ideas for the school year. The groups also went to breakout workshops where a variety of different speakers gave a forty minute presentation. Later that evening all the student leaders loaded into their busses and suburbans and headed for the Tuachahn Theater where we watched the exciting musical “Footloose”. Friday was the most exciting day. The student leaders went to three different activities. The first activity was the Leadercore Ropes Course which was basically just a whole bunch of games out- side requiring teamwork. The second activity was a service project. Each school brought supplies for humanitarian aid kits. Each student put together a kit and signed a card for the soldiers serving over seas. The third activity was a motivational speaker. After lunch we had the Spirit Bowl which is were the students were separated into four groups. Each group competed against each other in various games. After which the Gunnison students left the conference and went to Deseret Industries to buy outfits for the black-light dance to be held later that night. We returned to the conference to watch the finalists of Dixie Idol, a concert by Alex Boyé, and then the black-light dance. The dance was my personal favorite; it was loud, exciting, everyone danced and had a blast! Saturday morning we packed up and headed for home full of ideas for the school year. Dixie Leadership Conference helped our student council bond together and I’m excited to work with this great group of student leaders. We would like to wish a special congrats to Kayla Bartholomew and Wyatt Hopkins for dancing a fantastic number for Dixie Idol and taking first place. We’re so proud of them! FFA attends summer camp by TY BLACKBURN GVHS FFA Reporter On July 7th and 8th the Gunnison Valley High School FFA Officers attended the Southern Utah University Summer Leadership Conference, at the SUU Mountain Cabin. The group of students left on the 7th and got to the cabin that afternoon, and did a lot of leadership training activities that was very helpful. While everyone was sleeping on the cold hard and rocky ground, Mr. Burrell was sleeping in the warm soft suburban. The conference ended with an auction on the 8th and they left for home soon after. The best part of the conference was the “Games of Death” and being able to meet FFA officers from other chapters.
