In the July 15th issue of the Salt Lake Telegram there was a may on the Death Strip Highway showing the proposed changes on Highway 91 in Davis County. Then there was an editorial July 17th entitled LACK OF OUT OF OUR STATE. This editorial covered the pr posed changes on Highway 91 in Davis County. In the Kaysville Reflex July 29th there was another good editorial on the quality of roads that are being built on all the proposed changes. Now I am going to add my ten cents worth on that portion of the proposed changes that pertain to Layton. Quoting from the July 15th issue of The Salt Lake two lane road beTelegram. Eventually the five-mil- e tween Farmington Junction and Layton will be abandoned and its replacement with a separated four-lan- e highway included in the 1950 budget. Why wait till 1950? We are told that the heaviest traffic in the state is between Ogden and Salt Lake City, still millions of dollars are being and have been spent on roads both north and south of Davis County and through our mountain areas where traffic is not as congested and where the death toll has been much less. Just another grand runaround and a heap of promises. What the civic clubs, the property owners and thy business men of Layton want to know is why is it necessary to abandon the old highway through Layton. They do not want this highway abandoned. They want it widened, the spur railroad track removed and make Layton the town it should have been years ago. There is ample room for a four lane highway through Layton and also two lanes on either side for local traffic but for some unknown reason the State Road Commission does not see it. They want to cut our to n up with a new highway a block or so from the old highway. It appears the most inexpensive and most satisfactory solution for all concerned is to leave the highway where it is and give Layton the. highway it should have had years ago right now and not in 1950. 1 do know that there will be a g5sh-awffight if the road commission tries to abandon the present highway and put it through one of the several proposed routes surveyed at the present time. Layton is entitled to a good highway where citizens and the property owners want it and so help me we are going to get it. On July 26th a committee of Layton business men and property owners asked the Town Boards support on this Highway, deal and they were adivsed that the Board will give them their support, and I am one member that means to do just that. So if it is a fight that the Road Commission is looking for they are going to get it, and we are not going to wait till 1950. Layton is entitled to a lot of consideration on this Highway set up. Enough said. We are thankful for the one block of resurfaced road on Gentile Street from Highway 91 to the U. P. Tracks. west to the city limits. It should have been in now safe You are parking your car at the Layton without Cold Storage loosing it in a chuck hole. So long till next time. . PEAS Smith's, 6 No. 2 cans. . . .
