Bori in Salt Lake City, he is a son of President Joseph F. Smith, fifth president of the LDS Church. Dr. Smith received his Ph. D. degree from the University of Chicago. He served as superintendent of Juab County Schools for three years and for 10 years was. superintendent of the Granite School District. In addition, he also served as a member of the Granite Board of Education for 10 years.
