Mo 11 (lay. was , the date set for the hearing of the arguments in the suits of the United States vs the Church of Jesus Car'st of Latter- day Saints and the Perpetual Eml grating Fund Company, in the Supreme Court of the Territory of Utab. The plaintiff is represented by Dla trict Attorney Geo. S. Peters and bis assistant, Wm. J. Clarke, of Utah, and Henry W. Hobson, United States Attorney for Colorado. The attorneys for the defense are Col. James O Broadhead,, of Missouri, Senator Joseph E. McDonald, of Indiana, and Hons. F. S. (Richards and Le Grand Young, of this city. The only one of the gentlemen named as the defendants, in connec tion with the organizations against whom suit is brought, who was present la court, was Col. John B. Winder. Among those present as witnesses were James Jack, Esq., and Recorder Geo. M Cannon, of Salt Lake County, who bad brought along with him several volumes of the county records. When the subject was brought np before the court, Mr. McDonald, for the defense asked leave to withdraw the answer already filed In thecas s, and the demurrer formerly submitted, and to file a new demurrer. In con nection with this he desired a post ponement of the case for one day. Mr. Peters made no opposition to the request-- which were granted.
