Show 12 Vernal Express Wednesday, July 28, 1993 Fishing Roundup ' : : X ) ; f v. I CAROL GARDINER plans to keep the Butch Cassidy saddle she won from the Uintah Arts Council despite an offer to buy it for $1,200. Saddle awarded by Uintah Arts Council The Uintah Arts Council Saddle contest concluded last Wednesday evening with the winner being local horse enthusiast, Carol Gardiner of Vernal. Following two months of fund raising in local businesses, including includ-ing The Skillet East Restaurant, The Golden Corral, I.GA, Wal Mart and Western Express, the $1,835 saddle was awarded at the Western Park Arena. The award of the saddle completed the third evening's events at the O-Mok-See Nationals. Nearly $900 was raised this year for the custom "Butch Cassidy Saddle No. 2." The saddle was accurately ac-curately hand crafted by Jerry Stewart of Saw Tooth Saddle Co. replicating an 1860-1880 Cheyenne-style Texas cowboy working saddle. Leather materials were donated by both Western Express and the Uintah Arts Council. The saddle has become an annual fund raiser, for the Uintah Arts Council to fund events such as this year's Folk Arts Festival. Creating incentive for additional ticket sales the final two evenings, was an offer by an Ogden man to purchase the saddle from the winner for $1,200. No one, including Gardiner, was willing to accept the offer. "I am going to have a Jerry Stewart saddle," she said. i ItaMBHMiHNffetffcsfeiMft fevf , in t V mi n fi i li im 1 1 m mimmmmmmmmmu-mmmmmmmmmmmmM BIG SANDWASH RESERVOIR Fishing pressure moderate with fair to good success rates. Karren and others had been fishing fish-ing a stretch south of the Jensen Bridge along the Green River for nearly six hours when a monster catfish took off with his line.
