Show ALTON CALDER DIES AT THE FT LOGAN TRAINING CAMP alton calder son of mr and mrs 0 B calder died thursday oct get 17 at ft logan colo 1 itie I he cause causa of hla his death Is believed to have been spanish influenza this news comes as a sudden shock to many friends of this young man who but two weeks ago were shaking hands bands with him bidding him godspeed in his work ile he left vernal with the contingent of limited service men alton calder was born on oct 17 1892 being bweni six years old his death occurring on his birthday anniversary ile he lived in vernal practically all his life and was mas esteemed for his many good qualities while his disposition was more retiring in a public way among his friends and at home he always made his presence known for his cheerful optimistic companion like spirit ile he received his early schooling in vernal from the public schools here ile he took one years v work ork at the uintah academy later going to preston idaho where he graduated from the onelda oneida academy in preston he lived with his sister mrs airs mamie robinson besides this schooling he also had three years of work in the university of utah and would have graduated from that institution this year ills his life a ambition was to secure an education and he be was continually working and striving to that end lie he taught school one year in the ouray valley at the outbreak of the present war he immediately made application to enlist but lie was rejected on account ot of physical detects defects ile he was persistent however and made several applications at different times thereafter but each time was rejected when he learned that limited service men were wanted he be grasped at the opportunity and as aa a result mas BBS sent to ft logan colo surviving him are his mother and father and the following brothers and slaters sisters mentzer calder mrs mamie robinson leo calder zelph calder and kathr kathrn n calder zelph is teaching at the murdock academy and kathryn as attending school at the B D Y U in provo and have been summoned home funeral arrangements have not yet been completed |
