Show I I 1 I I I Mrs Jane Ferguson Barlow Muir Well-known Well pioneer pioneer pioneer pio pio- pio- pio neer matron Utah Pioneer Succumbs At Al Age of 86 Mrs Jane Ferguson on Barlow Muir 86 well known pioneer resident resident resi real dent and prominent Utah matron died Thursday at 2 30 a. a m m. of causes incident to age Born in Salt Lake City January 1 1857 the daughter of James Madison and Susan Mott Barlow she was born on the pres present nt site of the Hotel Utah next door to the home of Brigham Young with whom hom she was acquainted in her early life Heber J. J Grant president of the theL theL theL L D S church was waa a childhood friend of hers along with the late Anthony W. W Ivins and the late Reed Smoot former U. U S. S senator and L D S apostle Later establishing residence at West First South street her father practiced dentistry there and Mrs Muir assisted him with 1 his work On January 1 I 1880 she was married to William S. S Muir in the theold theold theold old Salt Lake 1 L D S endowment house Mr Muir was the first L D S bishop in South Bountiful She worked as a clerk in her husbands husband's husbands husband's husbands husband's hus hus- bands band's store in Bountiful Mrs Muir and her family moved to Randolph aft after r her fathers father's I death Mrs Mr Muirs Muir's first wife 1 died in 1896 Mrs Muir reared 10 foster children and seven of her own Mr Muir died on March 18 1928 I IFor For the past two years Mrs 1 Muir had lived in Salt Lake City Previously she had been a resident of Logan since 1904 Surviving are three sons Milton B. B Muir Alpine Barlow F. F Muir Taylorsville and Vern B. B Muir Logan city commissioner and past president of the Utah Municipal league two daughters Mrs Ethel Mathews Providence and Jean Stewart Muir Los Angeles five foster sons and daughters Wilham William William Wil Wil- liam ham S. S Muir Jr Alpine Leonard H. H Muir Bountiful Mrs Klea Gray Salt Lake City Mrs Vilate Winegar Woods Cross and Frank S. S Muir Huntsville a sister Mrs Kate Burton Mesa Ariz 17 grandchildren and five great great- grandchildren |
