Graduates Grad-uates and undergraduates of Harvard university united today In observing tho. seventieth anniversary of President Charles W. Eliot's birth, which also marked the completion of thirty-flvc vears at tho head of tho university. At a mass-meeting of students this afternoon aft-ernoon President Eliot was presented with an engrossed address signed by nearly near-ly ten thousand Harvard men At tho fame time he was Informed that the students stu-dents had subscribed 550-30 for a portrait of himself and Mrs. Eliot to be hung in the Union. The address boro the signatures signa-tures of many distinguished men, Including Includ-ing President Roosevelt, Chief Justice Melville W. Fuller and Secretary of State John Hay. It was In two volumes and handsomely bound in leather. |
