no less than persons began it was quite evident that all present were conversant with the step on which the strikers had decided and without a discordant note every man withdrew when the whistle blew for the shift to come on it was responded to only by such a few as were absolutely required to prevent serious and permanent complications at the furnaces that were then in full blast manager jones who was upon the scene when the walkout walk out took place brought the news to town a few hours later commenting on it he said that until a few minutes before the walkout began be had no intimation PROGRESS BUILDING ON FIRE AGAIN the progress building narrowly escaped another serious fire yesterday afternoon the flooring under a fireplace in the R G dunn company coffle on the sixth floor caught fire just be tore closing time fortunately the presence of fire was discovered through a small volume of smoke which came through the floor efforts to locate the fire were unavailing and the fire department part ment was notified capt mccarthy and fireman barnett went over and soon discovered that the flooring under the hearthstone was burning the hearthstone was removed and a few doses of chemicals served as an extinguisher SUES HER PHYSICIAN jensine krogh is suing dr W E ferrebee of murray to recover damages tor alleged unskillful surgical treatment by which sho says she was greatly injured in her health in the complaint it Is alleged that the defendant was called on december 3 to attend mrs krogh who was suffer lne from severe pain in the abdomen it Is then alleged hat the doctor treated her for tumor and also informed her that she was suffering from appendicitis itis and administered to her drugs and external applications which caused her to have a miscarriage it is further alleged that the doctor asserted that she was not in a delicate condition and prevailed upon her to go to the holy cross hospital and undergo an operation for tumor plaintiff alleges abat she was not afflicted with either tumor or and that if an operation was necessary it was made so by the unskillful treatment given her in the first instance by dr ferrebee DR IN A RUNAWAY dr R A hasbrouck met with a somewhat sorrowful experience yesterday while returning from bountiful where he had been called to attend a sick person on reaching the mouth of the sewer dam his horse became frightened and while yet excited the train dashed around the mountain the animal was terrified and began rearing and plunging he left the road ran into a wire fence and was badly lace baited on the legs and body the doctor leaped from the buggy and the horse after gotting tree from the wire ran down the road about a mile before ne stopped the animal was in a very pitiful condition large wounds were bleeding freely and the doctor sold him to a farmer tha buggy was not damaged very materially DORA HILTON DIES FROM BURNS A shocking accident occurred yesterday when little dora hilton the 2 year old daughter of chief of police hilton was so seriously burned by her clothes catching fire while playing about a bonfire ahat her death resulted late last night mrs hilton the childs mother was also severely burned in her brave effort to save her little one from being incinerated the child was playing about a bonfire together with several playmates when a sudden gust of wind cast the flames against her and her clothing was ignited she was soon enveloped in flames and mrs hilton was attracted by her screams rushing to the little one she seized it in her arms and received very severe burns in the attempt to save her little ones life the burning garments were not removed however before the child had been terribly burned drs witcher and wilcox were quickly summoned and when they arrived tho two sufferers were in terrible agony the child had been burned about the right side of her body and from the first her life was despaired of the doctors did all possible to relieve the pain they had the child removed to the holy cross hospital and tor a while she seemed to improve and hopes of her recovery were entertained but she began sinking last night and shortly before 11 her little life went out the mothers burns while extremely painful are in no way serious BURGLAR ALMOST CAUGHT A daring burglar the same it is believed who has been carrying on his operations in me city tor some weeks past came near to meeting his finish at the hands of an aroused neighborhood shortly before 9 last night the fellow entered the residence of ex sheriff harvey hardy on the corner of G and first streets by breaking open a back door before he had gotten well under way in his operations mrs hardy returned home from a visit As she entered the from gate she noticed that the house was lighted up and thinking this somewhat strange looked in at a window before venturing within to her horror she beheld a rough looking man stalking across the room bearing a lighted lamp in his hand he disappeared into a bedroom evidently not aware of the tact that he bad been observed mrs hardy rushed ta the home of neighbors and summoned help soon a dozen small boys a number of women and george E chandler of the empire steam laundry rushed across to the place mr chandler approached the back door while the rest of the detachment stood aloof the marauder evidently became aware of the fact that he had been discovered for as the door was opened by crandler Cn andler the fellow was making for it with some haste dr and manager wallace of the auerbach estate called at the fire department yesterday and after expressing their appreciation of the creditable work done by the department at sundays fire presented chief devine with a check to be used as the chief thought best for the benefit of the members of the department A RUNAWAY this morning at 1030 the fire department part ment was called out and made a run down twenty fifth street to lincoln when they turned north the delivery team of the H L griffin company was standing backed up against the sidewalk in front of the store they became frightened at the clanging gong and made a dash down the street an electric pole caught the wagon and the horses were caught further down the street the front end of the wagon box was badly smashed and the harnest pretty badly broken but no one was hurt the motorman on the twenty second street car had to remove the wagon before he could pass the affair was brief but swift |
