Show Alcoholism Council Members Convene For Special Session Members of the board of directors direc-tors of the Utah Alcoholism Foundation met Friday afternoon in special session. Although directors di-rectors of the board represent all areas of the state, the chat' nan of the Northern Council, the Metropolitan Me-tropolitan Council, the Southern Council and the Central Council were also Invited to attend the meeting to discuss the important Issues being considered. The special meeting was called call-ed so that members could study and take action on the recent report made to the Legislative! Council and the resulting newspaper news-paper comment. It is felt that the report created considerable confusion and misunderstanding In the minds of the public regarding re-garding the Foundation's rehabilitation rehab-ilitation program for alcoholics. After careful consideration it was decided that the report made to the Legislative Council did not present a true evaluation of the rehabilitation program for alcoholics al-coholics being carried on by the Foundation, affiliated councils and rehabilitation centers. In order to prevent further mis-understandings mis-understandings in the minds of the general public which might result In serious damaging effects ef-fects to the program, the following follow-ing action was agreed upon: 1. Arrange immediately for a meeting with the Governor as it is Imperative to clarify Issues regarding the report made to the legislative Council and to discuss dis-cuss other matters pertaining to Utah's alcoholism program. 2. The Foundation re-affirmed recommendations that were previously pre-viously made to Governor Clyde for the re-appointment of Robert Rob-ert Hoggan of Ogden and Jim Urie of Cedar City to the Utah State Board of Alcoholism. The board also recommended that one of the following: Thorpe E Isaacson, Evelyn Moyle Nelson, Dr. William D. O'Gorman or Dr. Ewart A. Swinyard be considered consider-ed by the governor for appointment appoint-ment as a member of the Utah State Board op Alcoholism to fill the vacany created by the resignation resig-nation of Dr. Chester A. Swinyard Swin-yard who recently accepted a position at Columbia University in New York City. 3. Appointment of a committee to meet with the Legislative Council's standing committee responsible re-sponsible for holding a hearing and making an evaluation of the report made to the Council. Announcement was also made at the meeting by Dr. William Mason, vice chairman and acting chairman In the absence of Dr. City had been selected by the National Council on Alcoholism for the 1959 annual meeting and International conference on alcoholism. alco-holism.
