ratification on the ath thursday of may to I 1 morrow and will as a matter of course xe le ceide an overwhelming majority in f favor avor of its adoption the schedule enacted and accompanying the secession document provides for the opening of a poll in each camp of virginia volunteers whether in or out of the state and voters suffered to vote thereat in addition to the regular election precincts the election for members of con congress a ress of the united states required by the law of that state to be held on the said fourth thursday in may mays is suspended and prohibited until other j wise ordained by the convention I 1 ordinance to repeal the ratification of the constitution stif ution oj of the united states of america by 1 the state stale of virginia Virgini ap and to resume all alt the tights rights ri ats and powers granted under said constitution the people of virginia in their ratification of the constitution of the united stites states of america adopted by them in convention on I 1 the day of june 1788 having baving declared I 1 that the powers granted under said I 1 tion were derived from the people of the united states and might be it when i i the same should be perverted to their injury and oppression and the federal gov eminent having perverted said powers not only to the injury of the people of virginia I 1 but to the oppression of the southern slave holding states now wethe people of virginia vir ginia I 1 do declare and ordain that the ordinance j adopted t ed by the people of this state in converti conven convent i t tion lon on tle twenty fifth day of june in the I 1 I 1 year yea oe f our lord one thousand seven beven hundred aar and e eighty g aty eight whereby the constitution of the united states was ratified and all acts of the general assembly of this state ratifying or adopting amendments to said constitution are hereby repealed and abro abrogated I 1 abed thattie that the union between the state of virginia and other states under the constitution aforesaid is hereby dissolved and that the state of virginia is in the full possession and exercise of i all the rights of sovereignty which belong and appertain to a free arid and independent state and they do further declare that said constitution ution 0 of the united states of america is no I 1 longer binding b on any of the citizens of the state this ordinance shall take effect and be an act of this day when ratified by S 9 in majority of the votes of the people of the state cast at a poll to be taken thereon on the fourth thursday in may next in pursuance of a schedule hereafter to be enacted GOVERNOR proclamation whereas the convention of this commonwealth has on thiap this the day of april 1861 adopted an ordinance for the adoption of the constitution of the provisional government of the confederate states of america and has agreed to a convention between the commonwealth of virginia and the lie lle ile confederate states of america with said bald confederacy shall be perfected and said commonwealth shall become a member of said confederacy according to the constitutions of both powers the whole military force orce and military operations offensive and add defensive of said commonwealth in the lma ima impending conflict with the united states shall ee e under the chief control and direction of the president of said confederate states upon the sam rame e principles basis and cooing as if sald said commonwealth were now and during a the ia beryal a member of said confederacy ad the commonwealth of virginia wills
