Show bridge over the mississippi the rock island Ill advertiser speaks thus of the naw new bridge which is to cross the mississippi from rook rock island to davenport in in iowa I 1 I 1 the bridge that is to span the mighty missius mississippi appl i i t to 0 U unite nite with its iron band the shores of illinois and lowa iowa at this point is at last located let out oat to contract and to be finished by the first day of december 1854 the bridge is to commence in in this city immediately above the depot at or near the place where the upper iron foundry now stands and is to cross the slough 6 or r east branch of the river river on a curve up stream by three spans or arches each feet in length and will strike the island above the I 1 old fort bort ground the curve carve will be continued regularly across the island to the banks of the main channel which will be crossed by five straight spans each feet fedt long and a draw for the passage of vessels the length of the main bridge will tie e about 1600 feet from the island to the iowa shore I 1 and when completed will be a wonder I 1 magnitude strength and beauty indeed I 1 I 1 I 1 together with tho the natural magnificent scenery of the country hereabouts theold the old fort its reminiscences the island I 1 itself abounding in romantic interests and the busy thriving and beautiful cities of rock island and davenport on either side of the I 1 of waters 3 will form a bombina j tion of landscape so grand that it will not be the least of attra attraction c tion to draw travelers I 1 from all points of the world to gaze gaz le upon a living panorama which they may never bov f or k get |
