Show SENATE DECIDES UPON WAY TO ENTER B. X. SMITH'S NAME When President Gardner called the senate to order for the fourth day the roll call showed a quorum p'resent. and after the divine invocation by the Tcv. J. K. Carver the senate journal was read. At its conclusion, Senator Marks of Salt Lake called attention In the fact that, the name of .Senator Smith of Salt Lake was written in tho journal jour-nal variously as "Bonner X. Smith'' and "B. X. Smith." lie suggested that the name should appear uniformly in the journal as Bcnncr X. Smith. With this correction ttfe journal was approved. ap-proved. A petition was presented by Senator Miller, signed by S. T Gubler and thirty-eight other residents of La Verkin, Washington county, to prohibit tho manufacture and sale of malt mid spirituous liquors in the state of Utah except for medicinal, mechanical or sacramental purposes. Tt was referred to tho committee on manufactures and commerce,, of which Senator Kuchler is chairman. Petitions and Eills. The senate concurrent resolution, by Wilson, authorizing Governor Spry to namo his own incsscncers between his office and tho senate and house, was adopted. S. li. Xo. 4. by Kuchler An act. to appropriate the sum of .$o000 to Margaret Mar-garet Clark, on account of the death of her husband, Seymour L. Clark, while engaged in his duties as a peace officer of the state of Utah and a deputy sheriff sher-iff of Weber county, was introduced. A communication was received from the houso to the effect that a resolution resolu-tion had been passed to annex to the state of Utah all that portion of the territory of Arizona lying north of the Colorado river. It was ordered referred j to the committee on federal relations. President Gardner suggested that senate bill No. .'5, providing the right of eminent domain for foreign corpora- tions complying with the laws ot ihe state of L'liih, be referred to the com- i mittcc on private corporations. Senator Badger, the author of the bill, demurred and suggested that the bill be referred to the 'judiciary committee, com-mittee, and it was so ordered. Senator Badger called up the mailer that, had been discussed in the caucus of tho senate the previous night in regard re-gard to an assistant engrossing and enrolling en-rolling clerk, and on his motion the ad- ditional clerk was allowed by the senate. sen-ate. In providing this additional plare the only thought in the minds of senators sena-tors was to provide a place for Willnrd Pone, former private secretary to Governor Gov-ernor Cutler, who had been left, out of the original shuffle when all the other brethren, and some of the sisters, had been provided for. In the caucus of the previous afternoon it was contended bv Senator Kuchler of Weber that Ihe 'additional clerkship was not necessary, and he openly declared it to be an unnecessary un-necessary expense against the state and an effort to make a pluco for an cider i who had been so long at the public teat in the state.
