The bill providing pro-viding for tho Presidential election in Louisiana to bo beld on the same day as the State election was called up, discussed dis-cussed and went over. Tho postotlico appropriation bill passed. Tho house amnesty and tho supplemental civil rights bills wore discussed without action ac-tion till adjournment. I10USK. Tho tariff bill was discussod in committee com-mittee of the whole, and tho duty on tea and coffee was stricken out; tho duty on bituminous coal was increased from fifty to leventy-Iivo cents; and a motion mo-tion to increase tho duty on salt from eight to twelve cents was debated till the committee rose and took a recess till the evening. In tho evening session tho bill providing provid-ing that all retired officers of tho army shall bo retired at the actual rank and pay prescribed for retired othecrs of tho same rank in the regular army, was discussed. dis-cussed. It will be amended and passed. The senate bill to enable tho President to appoint a paymaster-general ot the army was reported and passed; and the house adjourned. |
