having discussed dis-cussed and passed several very important import-ant bills and received the nominations of GoerorWels for members of four state boards The state lad bill was probably the most imlrtant measure passed The bill creates a board of land commissioners commission-ers and defines its duties and over sew era sections there was extended de bate although the bill finally Dassed almost as It was reported by the com mitee There was 3 disposition to leave out the secretary of state from the members of the board but the amend meat to that effect was lost and the bill wn finally passe by a vote of 13 to 1 Senator Pery beIng the only one opposed His objection was based on the ground that by the bill the loan commIssioners are allowed to lend money on farm real estate UD to two thirds of its value I was that cause that the senator did not think wa good business policy The lrInclpal difference between tie bill as resorted and the rreent law is that under the new arrangement the land commissioners commission-ers are empowered to sell land at private I I pri-vate sale as well as public instead of altogether at public a heretofore i Senate bill No 55 definIng the boundarIes boun-darIes of Utah and Juab counties was also passed as was senate bill No 29 making eight hours a legal days work In Utah House bill No S5 granting 1000 to J w Alien who was shot by bank robbers re-ferred to the Invetgatng committee but the president decided that it should so to the house since the senate ha shown no belligerent inclinations Just before adjournment Senator Hideout brought up
