II I " ' i 111 I In speaking of the"faithful work of the 'County of- I I ficials" the Cache County Democratic Committee says: I - I "A few of the County officials with no other " ,,H I income made an honorable effort to have their I e salaries increased ebnsistent with the higher cost 1 I - of living. This condition prevailed in every branch 1 1 I of industry throughout the county. The deputies jg I of these officials could receive only two-thirds of I B I . ' the amount paid their principals and they found I " 'I I themselves under the necessity of resigning and rf "B ',,, I seeking other employment. .f " ,?r ., ,-: -,... y H I . The officials resorted to the only honorable 1 . I method of obtaining an increase in salary both for B I !themselves and their deputies. A number of their . B I Republican ""friends advised them to resort to one v fl I' . j '; P. method, or another in order to obtain an increase fl I v but these officials are all' honorable men and would fl I not resort to any underhanded methods to obtain fl I ' the end desired. Finally the matter was tested out ' B I in tjfe courts and the law relating to an increase in fl I salaries was upheld' I I That is all right if it were only true, but the facts are, B -- I the greater portion of it is falsehood. We do not under- -. fl I stand why the COURT HOUSE BUNCH should want to. ?B ' I deceive the people, but the "record" suggests something fl I , very peculiar along that line. The above suggests a very t fl I sympathetic feeling for deputies, and charges Republi- B I cans with suggesting "other methods." The facts are the fl I "dear deputies" were of small concern in the eyes of the fl ' I principals, and the Republicans could not suggest any- H- I. . , . - thing they did not know and were not.trying out - .. flr W For instance, the record' shows that fai'December --' I 4 " Sheriff Barker drew $25 extra, see warrant 9717. In If I , January he drew $25 extra, see warant 10198. In Feb- B I ruary he drew $25 extra, see warrant 10668. In March B I warrant 11034 shows 'Extra compensation authorized" . B $25. December records warrant No. 10192 in favor of B I Alma Mathews forvanextra allowance of the' same fl . amount, $25. . .H In conversation -with the Sheriff, the Clerk and the fl Treasurer we find this was an allowance authorized, prior . fl to the time of their famous resignations, and are inform- fl ed that since the embargo placed upon them by the Su- B preme Court they have- not drawn extra compensation. B N In fact the Treasurer sayahe(pbjects itopay warrants - jj; fl ( " forf extra compilation, which apparently brought forth'" 1 B" ,- the resignataorii.3 li' B' It will be noted that these "honorable men" had no ,. fl concern whatever for the"dear deputies" as long as they I B could draw the extra $25, and the "method" the Demo- IB' cratic committee says "their Republican friends advised" I B was already in .complete operation. Not being able to , B , pursue this illegal method any longer the resignations ' B were filed, accepted, they were appointed and finally B made to live up to the laws by the Supreme Court fl LsssB v Sheriff Barker says he drew the extra allowance for , ' from four to six months. We checked up four months. " B Clerk. Mathews did not admit any extra compensation. Warrant 10192 gives him $25 along with Mr. Barker, and while we did not check back on his account it is only fair B to conclude that after ne got a. start he finished with the B Sheriff., ' - B Taxpayers what do you think of such proceedings? B Is it not fair to assume that had the $25 extra, been paid B - each month there would have been no 'resignations, at B least as far as Barker and Mathews were concerned? The B fl more this thing is gone into the more it becomes a cold B B blooded attempt to "getthe money" irrespective of "dear .m B deputies," irrespective of law, or anything else. If you B B approve it vote for the COURT HOUSE BUNCH next B fl Tuesday. If you disapprove of such methods VOTE B fl AGAINST the COURT HOUSE BUNCH next Tuesday. v B I Cache County Republican I Q I Committee I I I (Paid Political Advertisement) I B I II . taBBBBBBBaaBaBBBBaaBaaaaaBBBaBaBB I , . - 1 ' " - '-' .-""" . ..... ....... , J i l - -1 " " "mm i..i i.ii.;wgyyl.ii.'-w,...uw.,M,.,..i.i,i.)i-i,.i. j -TJM |
