Show The PARSON Page 2 Letter to the Editor Editorial Reason Hoes if Again Muscle-Houn- Dear Editor: HAVE BEEN FEELING CHICKEN Good! This little tidbit of YOU LATELY? information was taken from the latest of the Pacifist magazines, VIET REPORT. You know which one--- it was passed out last week by our bearded friend from the University of Utah, and it reads like this: If the increased draft call affects you, or if you have reason to believe that your Reserve unit will soon be activated, the following information may be useful to you: You may legally refuse to fight on the grounds that killing or injuring other people, even during wartime, is against your moral or religious beliefs. You do not have to belong to a church, attend services or believe in a in order to qualify Supreme Being as a Conscientious Objector under the law. A long established organization called the Central Committee for Conscientious Objectors. . .will send you upon request a booklet (50?) which gives full information about your legal rights to refuse military service. . .If you are already a member of a Reserve unit, you may still legally avoid being sent to Vietnam. . .write to your commanding officer to ask for an unsuitability discharge. . . Sounds enticing doesn't it? Now if you are still feeling chicken and want the same result then your friendly, local Russian Embassy will gladly lend you a loaded Roulette pistol. And if that doesnt work, then why not try picketing your nearest Kindergarten. . .but be careful of flying Alphabet blocks, they can be very damaging to feathers! -- 30- SEE HYGEIA ICELAND'S NEWLY FUN NO December 8, 1965 COVERED ALL WEATHER RINK. That same man left the Lounge three hours later after discussing various things, among them a peace program for Vietnam. Tuesday, November 30, two men walked into the Student Lounge, bought coffee, sat down. On their coats the button Peace in Vietnam. Two hours later these same men were physically thrown out of the Lounge, the air let out of their car tires. Is this the way we settle a discussion at Westminster? There are many ways to make an answer known private conversations, letters to the editor, speeches, papers. They all have the same effect yet are still controlled. CIotfEia dull-witte- LIBRARY! Since when has another opinion not helped to broaden our own viewpoint. Can a blind man paint without seeing? Can a conclusion be reached on anything without hearing all sides. Are we deliberately isolating ourselves from outside and sometimes unpopular opinions. Are we afraid to face all sides and take the easy way out by completely ending all discussion. What they had to say and how we reacted to it that is the problem. Can we be proud of the action? m Way It is completely covered with a layer of cotton wool; youll find out why later. On this cotton wool the condemned man is laid, face down. Here are straps for the hands, here for the feet, and here for the neck, to bind him fast. Here at the head of the Bed, where the man first lays down his face, is this little gag of felt, which can be easily regulated to go straight into his mouth. It is meant to keep him from screaming and biting his tongue. When the man lies down on the Bed and it begins to vibrate, the Harrow is lowered onto his body. It regulates itself autoso the needles barely touch that matically his skin; once contact is made the steel ribbon sitffens immediately into a rigid band. The Harrow appears to do its work with uniform regularity. As it quivers, it points pierce the skin of the body so that a sentence is written on the body. Eventually enlightenment comes to the most d. QUIET How many times have we been kicked out of some place for saying what we thought. Not too often because most people will listen to what we have to say. When Toni Franzolino Kim Gregory Marilyn Pierson Allan Burkhalter Allan Austin, Bernd Beutenmuller. Bill Kittel Tom Dawson Elayne Williams Katie McBride Just Bad Taste by Marilyn Pierson Things have been looking up for Westminster. Weve had our name in the paper a lot for things like our football team, our remodeling, our changing ideas. It was good publicity. We were beginning to be d, recognized as an liberal arts school. Apparently there were some of us who felt this kind of publicity was a little tame. Then we had a little action in the Lounge. This proved that we are not as as we had claimed. Maybe we have a good football team, and good muscles, but have we any thought processes? Two men were in the Lounge on Tuesday. They were discussing the Viet Nam policies, among other things. They were pacifists. They didnt do anything revolting or riotous. They merely stated their opinions in a private conversation. People around them got interested and crowded around to listen. There were some who disagreed in the crowd. But there wasnt much time for either side to make his point understood. Muscle-minde- d individuals took over and bodily removed the two men from the Lounge. Not only that, their car tires were deflated so they could not leave the campus, which both obviously wanted very much to open-minde- open-mind- ed do. This isn't good rational thinking on our part. This isnt logical action. Colleges are a place to learn the other fellows view It not to get rid of the other fellow. only the publicity for the school isnt thats bad. Its the taste. |
