The race for president, including declared candidates J.C. Porter, Jonathon Jemming and Alex Smith, resulted in a nearly 50 percent disparity between the highest and lowest number of votes per candidate. Arveseth received 114 votes. Smith received 82, and Jemming 66. A last-- minute upset occurred when current ASWC Vice President J.C. Porter withdrew from the race during the final day of voting. Consequently, the exact number of votes Porter received was not released. Porter was not available to comment on his departure from the election. The vote tally was not released by the elections committee until approximately 11:30 p.m. on March 24, when current ASWC President John Rech announced the results to an informal gathering of candidates at a Sugar House restaurant. Arveseth and his colleagues were shocked that an .undeclared candidate would be so supported by voters. I was already at a disadvantage being a write-i- n candidate, said Arveseth. I cant believe people - Westminsters Annual Awards Day to be held on March 30 by Amy Naylor Forum Staff Writer Westminsters annual Awards Day will be held Wed., March 30, from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. in Tanner Plaza. It provides an opportunity to honor outstanding students, said Director of Campus Life Nick McClure. ASWC, Hogle Hall, campus clubs, staff departments, etc., select students as well r. faculty to receive awards. Some of the awards to be given at this years Awards Day are Whos Who Among American and Universities Colleges, Presidents Leadership, Trustees Character and Staff Service. Other activities will include naming the professor of the year and inducting the new ASWC officers. According to McClure, Awards Day provides an opportunity to publicly recognize people who have shown leadership, commitment to the college and academic excellence. All students are invited to attend this event. Lunch will be provided. , Student art exhibited at Jewett Center by Angie Francone Forum Staff Writer The Westminster Student Art Exhibit opens in the Jewett Center at noon on Tuesday, March 29. The art comes exclusively from Westminster students. Professors have selected extraordi nary works in painting, drawing, water colors, pottery, photography and ceramic jewelry to exhibit. Kay Kuzminski, chair of the art department, is in charge of the show, which is in its third year. The show runs from March 29 to April 22, Mondays through Fridays from 12-- 4 p.m. 3 -- 'CP" I I Jed Arveseth was elected ASWC President and Jessica Hughes vice president in an election that, aside from the number of votes cast, was anything but typical. A total of 396 students voted during this years elections. Last year 397 students voted.
