TheGorcSchoolofBusinessreceived a visit from the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs Feb. 6-The ACBSP will evaluate a self study completed by the faculty of the school in order for an accreditation to take place. In order to become accredited, the school must meet or exceed several standards set by the ACBSP. These standards state that a business program must meet specific qualilksiticns in both business and general education. Faculty and staff also are 9. reviewed as part of the accreditation process. The Gore School of Business chose be to evaluated by the ACBSP because of its high standards and its focus on teach- ing, according to Dr. James Cid Seidelman, dean of the business school. In 1990 our faculty thoroughly reviewed the standards set by the ACBSP and felt they were worthy to strive for, said Seidelman. For the school to begin preparing for ( the accreditation, which is separate from the accreditation of Westminster College given by the Northwest Accredidation Organization, the faculty and staff of the Gore School of Business has to assemble data and logistics about thebusiness proself-stugrams and put them into a book-lik- e report. This report would be used as a basis of evaluation for the ACBSP accrediting team. Comfortable with the level of quality set by the ACBSP, the faculty concen-trate- d their efforts on preparing the self study. They worked hard to decrease the number of adjunct faculty and amount of faculty preps. They also increased faculty scholastic activity and the number of qualified faculty members. To allow for a broader education, they also added the bachelors of art in business. The faculty elected to make 1992-- : y 1993 the year and submitted y the over 900 page report to the ACBSP in December, Seidelman said. The purpose of the recent visit was to verify the integrity and honesty of the self study. This is only part of the accrediting process. The ACBSP gave Westminster glowing accolades, Seidelman said. ACBSP praised several aspects of thebusiness school highly. These areas included integration with the business community, support of the dean and good collegiate relationships. They were also pleased with the programs computer applications and skills, oral and written skills, ethic and social responsibilities, international dimensions, team effectiveness and the inclusion of language art skills. Some areas that the ACBSP felt Westminster could improve upon were the library, installing a common professional component and integrating human resource dy management across the business curriculum.
