The Jewett Center was designed by Ray Kingston, akey figure behind the design of the new Jazz Arena presently under construction in Salt Lake City. Kingstons work also includes Symphony Hall in Salt Lake City and the Alice Sheets Dance Building at the University of Utah. Morgan said a great deal of consideration went into choosing the design for the new center. We conducted an extensive search and found Kingston and his plan to be clearly most suitable for Westminster, Morgan said. In fact, the Jewett Center will look much like a smaller version of Symphony Hall. Morgan said the Jewett Center will not only enhance Westminster in a physical aspect but it will also provide the capacity for the theatrical arts curriculum to grow as well. There have been instances in the past when a potential student has chosen to pursue his or her education elsewhere because we didnt have a substantial theatre arts or art history program. The Jewett Center will enable us tc expand and develop a program that may attract some of those types of students we may have lost in the past, Morgan said. According to Morgan, the calendar of performances and events for use of the Jewett Center is beginning to fill rapidly. Many people have questioned the small seating capacity for it being a performance center and theatre but were building The Jewett Center exclusively for See Jewett Center Page 3 Column 3 - by I extend my best wishes to all of you.
