Show December 9, 1983 Forum Page 3 Im sorry if this seems like a lecture; it isnt meant to be. I just think we should all remember that sports are there to be enjoyed, and can be, if put in the proper perspective. My career will involve sports in some aspect, but it will never be more important than my wife, my family, my friends. They are the people that I truly love. Fd also like to take this time to thank a few people for their help and support. First, my editors Anne and Kathy. They put up with so much crap from me it was unbelievable. I think if I ever stopped complaining Id drop over dead. Working with them was both a privilege and a pleasure because of their patience and understanding. Second, Id like to thank my advisers, Gordon Cheesewright and Ray Ownbey, who were always there to encourage and advise me during my massive depressions. I will especially cherish my friendship with Gordon, who will be one of my closest friends as long as I live. Finally, Id like to thank the faculty, staff, and students at Westminster for their friendship. I especially appreciate the people like the entire Game Room staff who took the time to get to know me and overlook my obnoxious exterior. But for some of you, I think the late Norm Van Brocklins comment will sufficiently cover your thoughts of me. When asked why he was hospitalized, Van Brocklin said, I had a brain transplant I made sure I got a sportswriters brain so I Sports Look Sports Look is officially D.O.A. as of this issue. I feel Ive gone as far as I can with it The interest just doesnt seem to demand it Id like to end my column with what I feel is a very impor- tant point I feel that sports are important in our society, but as an escape, not with a life or death signifi- cance attatched to them. There are too many problems in this Scott Kaiser world to take sports seriously. One example of how sports can be taken too seriously occurred here at Westminster. Intramural football had to be cancelled two years ago because of numerous fights during the games. The players overexuberance hurt the entire campus. Football wasnt returned until this fall, and it was made coed to make the games more fun. And it worked. The games were well played, enjoyable, and free of fights. Its just an example of how sports should and can be - fun. Id gotten one that hadnt been used. would know Future of Liberal Arts Continued from page 1 corners (students, faculty and administration) to this, but feels the notion of a liberal arts college graduate must become a reality. He hopes to begin generating dialogue which may better define and describe the campus-wid- e marketable graduate. well-rounde- d, well-rounde- The School of Arts and Sciences has approximately 25 fulltime faculty members and approximately 20 adjunct or part-tim- e faculty, according to Baar.
