Of course, its not nec- essary to go into the obvious such as skiing. Besides, I dont ski, so I couldnt tell you that much. If you are looking for cheaper activities, you neednt look any farther than Westminsters own fine intramural department, run by Jo McClus-ke- y and Teri Schryer. The many sports being offered include coed football, tennis, softball, basketball, volleyball and fencing. Other sports may be added if there is enough interest. The intramural office is located inside In addition, the Gymnasium is open most of the time, as is the weight room, which is in the basement of the Gymnasium. Also, there are many spas and weight centers which offer special rates to students in the Salt Lake area. People who would rather spectate than participate are also in a good situation here. If you like college sports, its almost like heaven. Besides Westminsters fine soccer team, you can watch major college football and basketball in four sites: the U of U here in Salt Lake; BYU in Provo; Weber State in Ogden; and Utah State in Logan. Three of the four are within a hours drive from the Westminster campus, with only Logan more than 90 minutes away. Professional sports are also represented in the Salt Lake area. The NBAs Utah Jazz are an franchise who play an exciting brand of basketball. College Changes (continued from page 1) Cheesewright was offered the opportunity to return to California Lutheran College, where he taught before coming to Westminster. Before leaving in early August, Cheesewright, too, indicated that the offer he got was too good, financially, to refuse. Tom Miller left to accept a better position in Idaho, according to Sonshine; and Sonshine is e now the only faculty member in the Computer Science Program. When Barbara Galler left, she became the Director of the Salt Lake Institute of Learning. According to Salt Lake City newspaper accounts, the Institute began offering courses this fall to lead to teaching certification and undergraduate and graduate degrees in education. The Institute also includes a Childrens School, with scholarships available for children of families. Contrary to rumors circulating on campus that Gifford was fired, the college decided not to renegotiate a contract with Gifford due to changes in the reorganized colleges history program, according to Craig A. Green, dean of admissions and records. Both Forum reporters and local television reporters have questioned college administrators about a second rumor that Gifford is suing the college. According to Green, the college had not been served with papers or given notice of any such suit on Sept. 9. As anticipated by adminstrators last spring, the college is now making broader use of adjunct faculty to assist several academic programs; plus e all position changes may not yet have been reported to Forum writers, so the list above only includes some changes not all of them. Information available to the Forum indicates that while some changes might have been directly attributed to the colleges recent reorganization, a substantial number of changes appear to have been coincidental for reasons such as retirement due to age or health conditions, and unsolicited job change offers. New faculty and staff appear to have accepted vacated positions with confidence about the colleges future. Kuusisto summed up the essence of this confidence with his two goals: to end uncertainty and to assure the continuation of the full-tim- The bonfire will be held in the lower parking lot below the practice field, from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m., Saturday night, Sept. 17. I realize this is a rather sketchy look at the sports opportunities in the area, so I encourage you to check in to anything that interests you. The Salt Lake Area can be a great sports town if you get involved. Soccer Team Plays Exhibition Game The Westminster NAIA Varsity Soccer Team, to be known as the Parsons, at least until Spring Semester, 1984, according to Mercedes De Lugo, cheerleader, played its first game, an exhibition game, on Sunday, Sept. 11, this year. The Air Force All Stars won the exhibition game according to Bob Marselle, cheerleader. Marselle said there was a good turnout at the game from both sides. The Parsons will play their first two NAIA games away from home on Sept. 15 and 16, with the next home game scheduled against Colorado College on Sunday, Sept. 18, at 1 p.m. A bonfire will be held from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. in the lower parking lot below Westminsters practice field on Saturday, Sept. 17, preceding the Sept. 18 game. De Lugo encouraged all students to attend the bonfire. 4-- 1, o low-inco- full-tim- only 30 home games in the Salt Palace this year; with 11 home games scheduled in Las Vegas.
