Show T t ? , t Huage Muasic Festival Westminster College CMmsui Westminster College and Salt Lake City will witness the first annual Westminster Music Festival, sponsored 'by the Division of Fine Arts of the College on Monday, May 23, at 8:30 p.m. in the Dane Han- Salt Lake City, Utah May 20, 1955 Fmmdeirs Day CHOIR, GLEE CLUB AND ORCHESTRA TO PARTICIPATE EM ANNUAL AFFAIR ?o ? ? T sen Memorial Stadium. Some 150 voices, singing with the recently organized Westminster Community Symphony Orchestra will high light the event. The groups which will combine to form the 150 voice choir are the Westminster College Concert Choir, directed by William Bushnell; Westminster Womens Glee Club, under the direction of Mrs. Elizabeth Hayes Simpson; and the New Choral Society, which is composed of singers from the community and is directed by Mr. Bushnell. Kenneth Kuchler, professor of instrumental music at Westminster, directs the Westminster Communi-- y Symphony Orchestra, the mem-)e- rs of which are musicians from the community and music students rom the College. Besides accompanying the soloists and combined choruses, the Orchestra will play wo selections. The featured soloists at the Mus-- c Festival will be Miss Mary Lou Singleton, Miss Louise Gray, Mr. Tom Sheldon, and Mr. Bill Jameson, narrator for The Creation. Jay Lees is the production manager for the event, and the publicity is being arranged by Mrs. Jay Lees. The Music Festival will bring to a conclusion the activities of the annual celebration of Westminsters Founders Day. Program Star Spangled Banner. arr. Bob was also President of the W Club this year. Pat Bellinger has been active in all school functions and was an outstanding member of Champion Girls. Basketball team. T 7 JEtmAiLLcnsfln By Lynn Elton Despite a cold wind and cloudy weather, the annual outing held this year at Lagoon was considered very successful.- The weath- er did prevent the swimming that most of us planned, but all enjoyed the concessions and rides offered at special prices to Westminster students. ' The food was terrific; hot barbecued sandwiches, salad and all the trimmins just hit the spot on .such a chilly day. Don Chin, Kathy Farikoff and John Alcott worked mighty hard to make the day as much fun as possible. . . . and judging from the turn out, they did a wonderful job, too! A lone passenger caught quite a bit of attraction as the ferns wheel .spun round and round . . . yep, that Jeanette Lathrop is really a scream. Ethel Vanderwagon and her Roland were serenaded with the wedding march as they strolled the midway hand in hand. Faye Robinson spent a good deal of time on the midway makwhile Cliff ing points a tskee-bal- l, Hodges threw sly curves at metal milk bottles that automatically fell when he stepped into the pitchers . box. If anyone finds a pair of glasses somewhere in the House of Spooks, will they please return them to Miss Motley? . . . She lost her head. Seen staggering from the Octu-pu- s was Pat Shay. Ida Lum braved the wilds of the last car tearing over the tracks of the roller coaster. Frank Slater and Valerie IIox-e- r soon followed, riding through the air with the greatest of ease (no hands). Charlotte Kay and Flo Eldridge spent most of the afternoon climbing in and out of the bus, praying for sunshine. Mike Dakis gazed upon the little cars ripping in and out, crashing one reckless driver after another, too timid to try but enjoying the noise. Pert Ann Cecil "and Charlotte Baird donated their time Geolofrv Professor Transfers To Arizona State Dr. Virgil R. Baker, popular Westminster College, will be leaving for Arizona State Arizona, about College, Tempe, July 1 where he will become Assistant Professor of Geology and Geography. Dr. Baker came to Westminster in 1950. At the time Dr. Baker arrived, Westminster offered only two courses in Geology and none in Geography. In six years Dr. Baker has built the department to include complete majors in Geology and Georgraphy. This year Dr. Baker has 13 Geology majors and 5 Geography majors with over 25 geography minors. Dr. Baker received his B. S. and M. S. degrees from the University of Nebraska and his PhD. at the University of Utah. He is chairman of the Science Department and was a member of the Chapel Committee and Schedule Committee. He also acted ' as advisor and organizer of The Agassiz Club. Dr. Baker said that he thoroughly enjoyed his stay at Westminster and the friends he had made among student, faculty and administration will long be remembered. Mr. Charles S. Elections are over and out of the turmoil came many fine officers, both Studentbody and class. Heading - the Senior Class for next year is TOM SHELDON as president. He is from Salt Lake City, has served this past year very capably as Student body President and was very recently married. In the position is GLEN KILPATRICK, also from Salt Lake City, also married and very active in the school. And from Martinez, California is NANCY JOHNSON, Secretary-treasurer. Nancy was Stuthis past seTreasurer dentbody mester and is planning on teaching German in the very near future. Salt Laker, A1 Ellison is in the head position of next years Junior Class. A1 has been' particularly outstanding in the basketball and baseball fields. Dale Thibault of Jerome, Idaho is in the position for the second time. He held this same position last year. Michi Nakahara, another Salt Laker, is Secretary. She has been very active in school events including the Mardi Gras. In the office of Treasurer is Mary Louise Routh from Rock Springs, Wyoming. Mary Louise is now second year as a her finishing Cheerleader plus many committee jobs for school functions. She is a major in P. E. and was a cheerleader this year. Ed Oliver, Logan, Utah is Treasurer. Ed was also one of our cheerleaders this year. ATTENTION ALUMNI !
