' SPIRIT BIG FACTOR When he was asked to comment on this years squad he said, Spirit is the big factor. I believe that when our defense gets going they can hold any offense but our offense is moody. Sometimes we can do anything, other times we can only work a few plays. As for Coaches Lee and Shell, they are doing a great job by giving the team the spirit to never give up. Its this extra that makes this years PARSONS a good team. well-execut- ed co-capt- off-seaso- n ll 13 Named Back of the Week is a transJunior College fer student, Ron Hauser. Ron was chosen from personal statistics taken from the four games Westminster has played thus far. His showing in each of these games has proven that he is an extremely valuable player in that he has brought to our club the talent and determination that won him the award. DEPENDABLE PLAYER eight-incHauser is a 170 pound halfback who usually sees action from the opening gun until the finish. This is because he is adept in the fields of fight, drive, strength, and endurance. Packing jersey number 23, Rons sportssense of manship and fair play have often been applauded by rival teams. Coach Lee relies heavily on his coordinated strength and dependable playing and Ron has always come through. It was probably from a rival team that Ron acquired the nickname of Howitzer, for indeed his drives do parallel that piece of artillery. an five-foo- t, h, oft-display- PHYS. -- Western State Armstrong, Hauser Named Line, Back by Bill Welter Sports Editor BECAUSE of the handiness of which the football players have been using their dukes in the last two games the motion has been made that we give these able sluggers and others the chance to show what theyve ' got. Lets have a Smoker. For the benefit of the readers who do not know what a Smoker is it is a series of boxing and wrestling matches of various types. It is composed of battle royals with 8 to 10 sluggers going at once, sometimes blindfolded, sometimes not, single boxing matches with the participants sometimes blindfolded, sometimes not, and wrestling matches also blindfolded and not. Smokers are a riot and they can be the height of fun and profit! A Smoker can bring in a same but Smoker can be a the good profit just well-manag- TWO GAMES LEFT IN SEASON f by BUI Weller At the Homecoming game this reporter saw many players there from squads one, two, and even four years back. The reaction from them about the game was heartening. They were grateful to the team for the wonderful show of skill and courage against one of the toughest teams in the intermountain states. I happened to overhear one comment that cus- -' tomarily would never get printed, but here it is: I have yet to see the students from Westminster rush on to the field and bring in their team after a hard fought game such as this one. And when it came to shouting a rally for the team I only heard four voices and they came from the cheerleaders! hard-foug- ht ed mis-manag- ed a failure. The Westminster football players had a Smoker two years ago and it is reported that everyone had a ball, but profit-wis- e not much can be said that is encouraging. Its now completely up to the student body and you alone. If no interest is shown well forget it, on the other hand if you are interested contact the following people and tell them so; The Coaches, Lee and Richardson, .Tuck Hubbard, Intramurals, Ken Johnson, president-- W club, or the Sports Editor of this paper Bill Weller. ED. MAJOR This is Rons junior year in college where he is studying Physical Education for his major and minor-in- g in Biology. After graduation he went down to the College of Southern Utah and played football while he was earning his college degree. It was here that Ron received the award. When Ron was asked if he was interested in he said that if given the opportunity he might seriously consider it. pro-footb- ALWAYS KEEP FIGHTING Asked about his feelings toward the team he said, I have never played with a better bunch of guys. Many times the squad has been in a tight spot but we never gave up and kept fighting. Its this attitude shared by each that gives me faith and confidence in everyone of them.
