HODGES Dean of Students QUESTION: JUST WHAT IS WESTMINSTER COLLEGES INTEREST IN THE WELFARE OF ITS STUDENTS? This particular question might best be answered by asking another HOW MANY ARE YOU? You are many varying and dif- ferent types of personalities. BILL WESTMINSTER a Korean veteran who was a leader of men in the last war, a man some 26 years of age, a possible property owner and maybe married with a couple of children. There is JOE WESTMINSTER, a young man, say nineteen years old, who has a real problem in adapting to this freedom of attending new-foun- d college. You are SUSIE 'WE STMJN-STER- , aged seventeen. She has used to a very close been always family group. Possibly she has never even been away from home overnight. She has a distinct problem of adjusting to this new way the many, financial obligations of the College. No part of the BODY or COMMUNITY can ignore the other. One individual, or using the rather overworked phrase the rotten apple, can and does influence the character and reputation of those about him and must be moved if he does not fit into the body as a whole. Communities have to agree to rules of living together. That is why we have laws, and we must abide and live by these laws. Westminster College takes its rules from Christian Doctrines which in many respects"are ahead of those of Society. Again, may I remind you that Westminster College is interested primarily in the education of the whole individual, interested in educating him toward the very best in standards of society. situation. There is MRS., WESTMINSTER who prefers to keep her age a secret. The mother of three grown children, a mature woman, who now, with time on her hands, wants to complete' her education towmrd a degree. There are many others. How can Westminster College establish policies that will be applicable to all these many varying types? It must be admitted that the setting up of such policies is difficult.
