Life, so often, is like learning to tune and instrument in a noisy room; you have to learn to tune your ear, and focus on the positive. Q. Is living a balanced life a theoretical term that nobody can put into practice? A. Absolutely not. Most of the time we just need to practice. Practice patience with the world, the people around us, and most importantly, ourselves. Q. How simple do you believe it is to live a balanced life? I life is out of balance, lots of things jobs and schoolwork can suffer. said, My life is out of bal- if I dont get a good physical workout, but for other people there are other triggers. People have different triggers that cause stress and disrupt the status quo of life. Stress cannot always be avoided, however, there are ways to combat it and maintain a balanced physical lifestyle. Being active is a great stress relief. Taking 30 minutes to do a physical workout refreshes your brain and body and then go back to what you were doing and study harder and study better, Sirip-rathasaid. In addition to causing mental unrest, stress can take a physical toll on the body. Stress can impact the immune system, making it more susceptible to sickness, said Randy Austin, director of student health services. Austin advises students to get enough rest. If you dont rest, you dont get the antibodies you need to help fight off what is being spread ne around, he said. Eating healthy is another element of a balanced lifestyle. Siriprathane said, What you put into your body affects a lot If you are putting in sugars and junk you will feel sluggish and have less energy. Lots of healthy food vtill make you feel better and be more mentally alert." The Dolores Dore Eccles Health, Wellness and Athletic Center offers a variety of workout classes that can benefit students both mentally and physically. Austin suggested participating in different events that the student life office sponsors as a diversion. The Counseling Center offers therapists, wellness support groups and peer mentors to help students. These resources can help students achieve mental equilibrium. Take a break. You cant study all the time. You cant worry all the time, Austin said. Keep on-cam- pus in mind that studying and school isnt everything. Keep it all in perspective and do the best you can. A. Realizing that we, as humans, are all still changing. I fear that we might look at our development as an event, when really it is a journey that lasts a lifetime.
