Show v f J Uptown Cheapstake f, I 1 f Continued from page 11 I associate had me fill out a form with my name and address and how I heard about Uptown Cheapskate. After I filled out the form, the associate used UC Buyer software. The associate explained that the software helps them price the items that I brought in based on style, brand, condition and what they have in the store. Unfortunately if there was already a bunch of what I brought in or if my stuff is out of style, the store will not take it. As the associate went through the bag of clothes that I had brought in, I had a chance to look around the store. Everything is organized by color and size, so it was extremely easy to find something I liked. After the associate entered everything, she made me a cash offer for the items they were willing to take. Cash wasnt my only option. I could have traded in my clothes for new ) s f t f 1 i t I i i I r - i items in the store. Uptown Cheapskate makes the deal even better if I had chosen to do that. I would have made 25 percent more if I had chosen store credit. There is a large selection for men and women. This place has all the popular brands too, everything from 7 For All, Tme Religion, Diesel, Express, Bebe, Hollister, Abercrombie and Fitch, Juicy Couture, Coach, Dooney & Bourke and many more. Right now the store is focusing on spring and summer apparel. Uptown Cheapskate is buying items like tank tops, shorts, and skirts for both men and women. Premium denim, like 7 for All Man Kind, Tme Religion, Diesel, and William Rast are always being accepted because it is always in high demand. I found the whole process extremely easy and there was nothing better than walking out of the store with cash in my hand. j 1 353 West 200 South Salt Lake City, Utah 801.931.3388 i For additional Information: www.uptowncheapskate.com Record Store Day f Continued from page 12 f t ; i i j 1 1 Slowtrain oweners Chris and Anna Brozek assisting customers. i Food Bank. We tried to partner with a lot of local businesses. Chris said, We wanted to do a sale, but we also wanted to help out a local charity. April 18 also coincides with the kick-o- ff of their year long Get Unchained Campaign. The record shop will exchange any gift card to a chain store for a Slowtrain exclusive and limited edition vinyl records to celebrate. records typically feature one song on each side and are a common way to release singles on record instead of the more vinyl. Why release a accessible and common digital download? Downloads are counter intuitive to what record store day is, said gift card of equal value. The Brozeks first offered their customers this deal last June for approximately a week. The feedback was great so the two decided to bring it back. Its a service to our customers, it makes them happy with us, it keeps them coming back and it keeps them out of the chain stores, which is the ultimate goal, said Anna. That isnt all though. Approximately 80 national artists including Bob Dylan, Sonic Youth, Slayer, The Decemberists, The Black Keys and Queen will release Chris. Both Chris and Anna think that vinyl records are making a come back as the preferred tangible medium. I think its a distinct reaction to the digital era that weve been living in. Digital is cold, you dont get as good of sound quality 90 of the time and there is no interaction with it at all. Anna said, Vinyl has warmth. Its intimate. You have to pull it out, flip the record and pull the needle. And it just sounds better, said Chris. Despite Slowtrains proximity ,to many other ch 7-in- ch 7-in- ch I I downtown record stores the couple is confident about everyones continued presence. Anna and Chris credit this to every downtown record store doing something a little different and each of them being very community oriented. If you put us all together youd have a really cool version of Tower, Anna said, If we cant carry it all, Im glad that there are places within walking distance that supplement what we have. Thats genius. I think thats what helps us all stay open. And thats what record store day is all about. Were banding together. Its about community, said Chris. Check out Slowtrain and all the other locally owned record stores to take , in some live music, purchase limited edition and support and celebrate the culture of the unique neighborhood shops. t I f I t hes 1 t WWW.WESTMIN5TfcRFORUM.NET VOLUME XLII: ISSUE 15 APRIL 14, 2009 v i. ,-- I V |
