Several dorm students are voicing their unhappiness with dorm life by applying to be released from their residence contracts for next semester. Regardless of the fact that Hogle Hall is already overcrowded and "inadequate" for the students, all requests have been denied by Susan Heath the dean of students. I guess album isn't the correct term anymore, CD maybe? I assumed before I bought it that it contained new studio recordings that had never been released before, all new songs. The CD does contain some live studio recordings, and the Beatles in conversation, but now we know why these recordings were never released. Some of the songs are pretty bad. The quality of the recordings is also very poor. However, most of the music on the release are the same songs I grew up with. Early versions of "Love, Love Me Do," "I Want to Hold Your Hand," "Can't Buy Me Love," and so on. Very early Beatles music. And to be honest, they sound really hokey now. But lets face it, this is not a CD you buy for the music. This is pure nostalgia. Unless you're really into the Beatles, like I used to be, save your money. The retail price of the CD's is $37.99. I bought mine at Sam Goody for $24.99, which isn't bad, but in my opinion, you would be better off buying one of the 2-C- by Krista Pauli Forum staff writer Ok, so you weren't even born until after the Beatles broke-uYou can't figure out what all the hoopla is aDout; three old rock stars got together to make an album. D Beatles Greatest Hits albums. I would also recommend that you start with the later Beatles music. It was much, much better. Songs like "Yesterday," "The Long and Winding Road," "Hey Jude," too many to list here. The Beatles music really was, and still is, some of the best music, written in this century. I can understand the three remaining Beatles recording the one new song that Lennon wrote, "Free as a Bird," and releasing it as a single. But for the rest of it, there really is no point to it. The music is already out there. Do these guy need the money that bad? There's a reason they named it Beatles Anthology I. That's right, there's going to be a Beatles Anthology II! If you can't decide what to get your parents for Christmas, they might appreciate the CD more than I did. But if they have some, or all of the Beatles albums already, don't bother. Pull them out and listen to them again with the "Old Folks." It's worth a chuckle. And if your parents are like me, theyll still know all the words. |
