Show Loads For To Heavy Register $100 Deposit (Required by Ruth Catron Forum staff writer i' Several changes have been made in relation to fall 1992s registration schedule and process, according to Sheryl Phillips, dean of records. A new Master of Professional Communication (MPQ Program will be offered, and a couple of measures have been taken to ensure availability of classes. In response to working students requests to add classes that would contribute to theirprofessions, Westminster will offer the MPC program, which contains four classes available to anyone withabachelors degree. The bachelor s degree need not be in communication to be eligible, said Phillips. The MPC program is great, not only for communication majors,' but also for students who want a masters degree and are not interested in courses like accounting. The program would be perfect for a person wanting to be involved with public relations, said Phillips. To slow the rate at which classes are closing, Phillips said that if a student registers for more than 16 hours, beginning in the fall, a $ 100 deposit will be required at the time of registration. Phillips said on the first day of spring registration, 600 people signed up. She suggest that students register as in quickly as possible in order to save a spot a class. Another change benefits students who are on waiting lists: teachers will drop students who do not show up for the first day of class and accept waiting students. Phillips said spring term classes were almost filled to the point of being crowded. In an attempt to correct that, falls schedule will be offering more class sections. She said classes of the same kind will be inter- - spersed throughout the day in order to accommodate everybody. Westminsters enrollment increases on the average of 3 percent a year. Enrollment skipped from 1 ,940 in 1990 to 2,006 in 1991. As of February 1992, enrollment reached 2,066. Part of that figure is the growing number of incoming freshman. Falls tuition will increase 6 to 8 pere being 3,780. Phillips said cent, even though Westminsters tuition is more expensive, its increase is lower than most full-tim- Utah schools. Election Ethics Must Wait Until Next Year For Change by Carrie Stults Forum staff writer Former ASWC President Matt Beard jokingly announced in the ASWC Senate meeting that the ASWC election numbers would be released, said Dean of Students Gary Fitzer. The joke, however, is on the voters. Fitzer, who supports this year s election committees decision to not release the numbers, said its a dead issue. Any rumor about the ASWC election numbers being released is false, he said. The committee was following standard procedure. This was the first election that anyones given a damn enough about to want to know the ballot numbers, he said. Next years Election Committee will consist of current ASWC senators. Policy could be changed if the constituents make themselves heard, said Fitzer. With the enlightened student interest in the elections, Fitzer said he is confident there will be changes made in next years elections so that the numbers could be released. Chris Searle, senior in management, ran as a write-i- n candidate for ASWC president in this years election said next year will be too late for him. All along all I have asked for is how many votes I got in this years election, said Searle. He said he knows he didnt What it amounts to is a lot of misinforma-tio- n from people when all anybody wants to know is the truth, he said. No joke involved, ASWC President Tonya Garreaud, said, I have no problem letting the numbers be released in next years ASWC elections. But students need to voice their concerns before the election, she said. Searle, as well as other concerned students, know it is too late to change the Westminster tradition of concealing ballot numbers this year. But, he said next year will be the start of anew election process at Westminster, as he and others voice their concerns to have the majority, but believes he might have had the 10 percent to justify a new election. From my own personal poll of the people who said they voted for me I had enough votes, said Searle. If there is nothing to hide, then why is it being hidden? After the election results were announced, the election committee stated that if one of the candidates received 50 percent plus one of the votes cast, Searle s 10 percent would be nullified and there would be no cause for another election. This rule was said to be from the old ASWC Without releasing the numbers, said apply? Searle, who can say what by-law- s.
