Show Three May Faculty Workshops Funded By Gore Endowment Fund The Workshop in Writing will teach participants to construct focused writing assignments, evaluate student writing, become more proficient in their own writ- by Mary Lang Forum staff writer Westminster faculty can sign up now for any of three faculty workshops being offered for 1992 May term. The workshops, new this year, are Effective Lecturing, Workshop in Writing ing and overcome writers block. Effective Lecturing will be conducted by Marilyn Scharine, speech instructor, to aid faculty in brushing up their lecturing skills. I thought about proposing it because when Im lecturing I remind myself of the things .1 need to be doing, said Scharine. She said when some students have suggested she talk with their instructors, she realized there are instructors who have never had lecturing instruction. Effective Lecturing will cover dynamic delivery, clear organizational structure and valid and amemorable supporting details. Participants can bring their old lectures to the workshop and experiment with some different approaches' to presentation, said Scharine. Practice lectures will be video taped and critiqued during the workshop. Richard Fowles, associate professor of economics, will introduce faculty to SAS via IBM PC gateways in his workshop. They were made possible by the Excellence in Teaching Fund of the Gore Endowment and are designed to allow a faculty member to teach other faculty members.
