Show T Little Drummer Boy LP benefits worthy cause by Erick Scheen Before I even touch this LP, let me make one thing known: I hate Christmas music. The very thought of having to endure another season of "Jingle Bells makes my stomach churn. Im not against the season itself, just the idea of breaking out the sames songs every time December rolls around. With this in mind, let me tell you about this album. A Very Special Christmas is more than another ploy by pop artists to make a buck. All of the proceeds (over marketing and produc tion costs, of course) will be turned over to Special Olympics International. Not even this Christmas spirit can completely save this LP, however. There are a few bright spots in this red and green gloom, so let me fill you in on them. In my mind. Sting, U2, and Bryan Adams are the messiahs to this compilation. Their songs; "Gabriels Message, Christmas (Baby Please Come Home), and "Run Rudolph Run, respectively, are fresh and sincere. Sting takes the somber route, while U2 and Adams get down right rockin. These three almost save the album, as well as more than adequate performances from Bruce Springsteen (Merry Christmas, Baby), John Cougar (I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus), and the Pretenders ("Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas). Even with these bright spots, the subhuman efforts from Run-DM- C and Madonna SOMETHING NEW! recommend this LP is the worthy cause it serves. Better yet, go get a copy of this to fully understand the difference between Christmas spirit and Christmas dribble. Listen to U2, then listen to Madonna. Merry Christmas, ) sink (Christmas in Hollis, and Santa Baby,Christthis LP into the pit full of commercial mas dribble. Madonnnas Betty Boop imitation is so obnoxious that it would be worth shelling out nine dollars for the album just to scratch her song. Other annoying performances come from the Pointer Sisters (Santa Claus is Coming to Town), Whitney Houston (Do You Hear What I Hear), and Stevie Nicks (Silent Bono. Night). All in all, the only factor compelling me to Yeafs New one party Only blows out the olu and rings in the new with thisldnd of oomph.
